Title: Chris' Apocalypse Imperial Taskforce
Description: Inquisition, Imperial Guard and Marines!

Welcome to my Band of Brothers log, basically encompassing 3 Imperial Armies that will come together to form my Imperial Inquisition Xenos Taskforce, a force assembled to vanquish a combined force of Tau, Orks and humans on a world in the Eastern Fringe, meeting to form an alliance in the name of the Tau Empire!

The taskforce will include my Space Marine Chapter, the Shadow Wraiths, a company of veteran Imperial Guardsmen, Several Inquisitorial Retinues, a number of Assassins and various other miscellaneous units that will be used as a whole as my Apocalypse army. Towards the end of the build-up I plan on getting a Baneblade as a centrepiece, although that will be around the summer time...

To begin with this log is going to be quite slow, as I have recently moved into a new flat and decided not to bring my wargames stuff, as I already had a ton of things to be bringing over and limited car space, so these:

and my miniatures are still all at my parents house in the next county. Bleh. On top of settling in, I have a number of assignments that are late thanks to my inability to attend university thanks to my operation. On the plus side, I'm closer to SC for some games of 40k once his Krieg start appearing, then theres GW within easy travelling distance (short walk and Metro ride).

My painting for the month will be the following:

user posted image

My 10 Marine, 2 Plasma Cannon, 2 Lascannon, 260pts + Devastator Squad for the Shadow Wraiths. Hopefully I'll be able to paint these before the months out, or early next month which should still earn me some points!

The idea around the force is that its a way to bind together the numerous Imperial forces I want to collect and also theme my army towards some games in the summer that I've planned to have against a friend who I haven't gamed with in years. He has lots of Orks, lots of Tau and a meager force of Guard. My Inquisition Taskforce is supposed to be assaulting a meeting of some Tau Water Caste negotiators, who are petitioning the Orks to become their allies/mercenaries and the Imperial Guard who will be the PDF commander and Governor of a currently Imperial Planet who are wanting to join the Empire!

Phew, this is rather wordy... :)

Hmm looking forward to seeing some painted stuff.

Pfreck - January 8, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)

Good idea with the theme, if you get bored of guard you can paint marines, variety is the spice of life and all that.....

DaCone2 - January 8, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a plan. Got any idea for colour schemes?

Deserter - January 17, 2008 01:45 AM (GMT)
The Marines are black and bone, with torso, groin and upper leg armour as bone, arms, helmets, lower legs and backpacks gloss black.
Guard will be grey and green (I think), and will use the scheme that I'll be using for my AB Guard Entry (if I have time!).

Changed my plans for this months contributions to Band of Brothers, going to paint a couple of HQ entries (due to a lack of time thanks to Uni and other things!).

First up is this guy, my current Commander, the rest of the Masters of the Chapter will be up in a few months time. They'll be something nice to paint when painting Marines makes me crazy!

This guy was part of a big bunch of stuff SC gave me, so I must give my thanks to him!

I'm on the lookout for any skulls from the Flagellant sprue, if anyone can help me out please let me know! Work in progress for the rest of my months points allowance is a power armoured Librarian, but I just put him into nail varnish remover, paint was a bit thick really, he just wasn't working out the way I imagined! Should have him painted by the time the weeks out. :)

Comments, suggestions?

thewizardofoz - January 17, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
awesome! did SC paint it? no? then no credit for the lovely mini. thanks is okay, but he gets enough praise....

awesome!

Deserter - January 17, 2008 02:09 AM (GMT)
Noo...I painted it, it was just a gift from him (the box of them!). Met him today in the flesh too, he was super-cool :)

loyalist42 - January 17, 2008 02:29 AM (GMT)
good stuff, man. gotta say, i had the same idea for a combined imperial force...mostly to stave off painting boredom. everything looks awesome so far!!

Khrangar - January 17, 2008 02:34 AM (GMT)
I wish I could meet SC so he'd give me free stuff :P. Looks good mate, I especially like the rebreather head, looks better than I thought it would when you first mentioned it.

you met SC? so he isnt some sort of strange internet hacking machine that searches and catalogues all of the gay porn sites that have ever been created? and of course has a very high quality painting attachment. and a strange innuendo program.

i need visual proof.

next time you see him, make a video of you cutting him, i wanna see the blood. he could have some sort of human suit transport thing he downloads into....

The marines looks awesome mate and the colour scheme looks great.

Angel Robertson - January 17, 2008 10:48 AM (GMT)
Love the idea for this army should be really unique! Do you have any painted marines already?

AR

Deserter - January 17, 2008 12:22 PM (GMT)
I do, up in my standard log, pics are very dark so I'll try and get some new ones for this evening :)

Thanks for all your nice comments!

KayvaanShrike - January 17, 2008 12:34 PM (GMT)
He looks good Chris, though the pics could maybe be a little better, but I understand that may be hard with a model with light and dark bits on it!

And next time you see SC, tell him I say hi, though might read this here I don't care, tell him anyway!!

Deserter - January 17, 2008 12:39 PM (GMT)
Cheers Gav :)

It's a real problem for me to take pics, the lighting in my room is terrible apart from one lamp I have and its just not good enough to take pics with. So I use the lamp and the cameras flash and it gets something near to what it really looks like... The second pic is probably the best to indicate the colour scheme!

I'll have a think on getting some more lighting for the future!

Jester - January 17, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
i really like youre commander the color scheme sorta fits the army name in my head aswell mate im looking forward to seeing more :)

Keravin - January 17, 2008 09:21 PM (GMT)
Very interesting scheme. Looking forward to seeing some troops so we can see the basic scheme.

Librarian, stripped this morning and then painted tonight. I wanted to give him a skin tone like the Sanctioned Psykers I painted for my Guard years ago. Like he's aged prematurely, that even a Marine is feeling the strain of utilising the power of the Warp in combat.

Hope that's conveyed somewhat :) When I gave him a spray of dullcote the flesh turned almost purple (the second layer was a highly thinned wash of purple ink, just to give him a bit of an unhealthy skintone). He ended up looking like a Genestealer Magus...

Ah well.

This finishes my requirements for BoB for this month :) I'll be painting some Marine Bikers, but seeing as though they're half done I'm not going to be counting them as part of this!

When I have plenty of time I'll sort out some full "army pics". So far I have a Chaplain, a Commander (the Master of the Chapter), a Librarian, 10 Tactical Marines and 10 Scouts.

Cheers :)

Fortier - January 18, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
I like the Librarian, the skin looks awesome.

Tony88 - January 18, 2008 05:49 AM (GMT)
Nice work man!

Keravin - January 18, 2008 08:39 AM (GMT)
The blue on that librarian is looking great.

schoolcormorant - January 18, 2008 09:15 AM (GMT)
The skin is phantasmical!

Awesome work mate :)

bram kuijpers - January 18, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
looks very nice exept the black is a bit shiny, or is that just the flashlight?

i do realy envy the skintone B)

Angel Robertson - January 18, 2008 11:04 AM (GMT)
Great skintone for the librarian! Wierd that it went so purple after dullcoat! I use a purple glaze on all my skin pretty much and thats never happened!

Lookinf forward to full army shots!

AR

Deserter - January 18, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
Yeh it was weird! I'd also used a light purple ink wash on some of the metals, followed by a couple of others and that really stood out too!

I'm rather new to using dullcote though...hmm!
Thanks for all your comments guys:)

The left arm is supposed to be shiny, and the backpack, to tie him into the rest of my Marines. Their armour is gloss varnished (a cheating way to paint black armour, was on the GW site when the Templars were released). Its a simple way to paint black Marine armour and looks pretty good on the battlefield! They'll all get insignia and weathering at the end. Weathering will take the form of paint chips and insignia/chapter symbol is yet to be decided.

Pfreck - January 18, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
The skin on the Librarian looks awesome, Chris!

I really like it, I think I'll use that technique for my Rogue Psyker, thanks! :)

Keep it up mate!

KayvaanShrike - January 18, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
It looks really good mate, I like the skin tone alot. Conveys mucho stresso on the part of the little Librarian!! lol

So some bikes are up next, looking forward to getting them!

Deserter - January 18, 2008 02:26 PM (GMT)
Cheers fellas :)

The skintone was supposed to link with the colour of the tubing coming from the psychic hood, along with the metal of the hood itself and the staff, to again represent the power of the Warp...

Need to wait for my codex (which I left at my parents house, sadly) to work out the points cost for both of these but I would think that altogether they're reaching the 250pts mark.

KayvaanShrike - January 18, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
I can add it up for you if you want, give me a list of exactly what you have done so far and what they are armed with, weapons wargear, psychic powers etc, and I will run up a total for you.

I'm loving thay libby! can we expect to see more of that sort of wonderfully painted models soon?

titan136 - January 25, 2008 02:22 PM (GMT)
awesome librarian, i love the pale purple skintone!

TheGrizz - January 25, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
As everyone's said, that's one very nice looking Librarian there. Very in-character!

Asmodai Dark - January 25, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
I think the face is fantastic - consider the idea stolen :D

Konrad - January 29, 2008 08:40 AM (GMT)
Digging the Librarian and the Commander looks sweet to.

Firestorm Falcon - January 29, 2008 05:29 PM (GMT)
That libby is really cool, a lovely model well painted. The skin tone works really well.

3vilX - January 29, 2008 05:51 PM (GMT)
The libby's face is awesome, i really like the sort of deadened effect. Very much stealing that for my Chaos....

Deserter - January 30, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the awesome comments guys, I'm very happy with how he turned out! Just need to finish the gloss coat on my bikes and they should be finished. Pictures tonight perhaps!
