Title: AD's Tyranid Log
Description: Because its not just me who needs to eat

Asmodai Dark - January 7, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
You've probably all been wondering why I haven't started my log yet, after all, I organised this thing and I should be leading from the front... well... I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

user posted image

This is currently my room, because my normally huge room is being redecorated - pictures of which are to follow, however at the moment the walls look like swiss cheese despite reassurances that it'll be finished tomorrow...

So how am I communicating and sorting all this BOB buiness out then? Well, here's Field HQ (and currently watching QI to get into the spirit of my scoring which I'll have to start seeing to this week)

And after nearly four months... Look SC - IT LIVES!
(Bit of elbowing, lots of shouting, lots and lots of nearly breaking it, a Tarot card and mostly luck...)

Anywho, onto this army.

I've decided to do Tyranids for some reason...
user posted image
Ive only owned tyranids once before and promptly got rid of them (that was back when the warrior set was 'New'). I mean when the new plastic carnifex came out I was pretty keen, but I held off. Until now.

Paint scheme is my biggest problem. Too hard or too boring and I'll ditch this army like a lead weight. My current thinking is glossy black (a la Aliens) for any units that infiltrate, and everything else to have a glossy black carapace to tie togother with there underbellys in a tan yellowy color (Iyanden dark sun, flesh/brown wash, build it up from there maybe... brighter for bigger bugs).

Compositionally I want two Carnifexes and both Fex's will be the traditional screamer killer as Im still not keen on my bugs lugging guns around - I just cant shake the idea that they should be ripping the enemy apart ASAP rather then shooting but meh. Im also planning to field two squads of genestealers, partly because there in the battleforce but also because there rock hard and I want something that can support the ravenors I intend to get.

Two large broods of gaunts and a chunky brood of Warriors should round things off nicely.

That lot should take me nicely too 1200 which is the bare minimum, but Im also planning to add a Hive Tyrant conversion which if it works, is either going to look amazingly cool or utterly stupid. Either way its going to have big stabby scything claws :D

thewizardofoz - January 7, 2008 05:00 AM (GMT)
tyranids was one of my first armies of choie, that was before awesome carni model. i just never got any.

your color scheme sounds good, and not to time consuming for a horde army.

i really like screamerkillers, but ive heard gunfexes can be good if tooled up right. if you plan on making this a serious playing list, then check out more nid tactic forums. i dont know of any, but there must be some.

good luck on hive tyrant conversion.

Asmodai Dark - January 7, 2008 06:46 AM (GMT)
See the thing is, I've always prefered playing in a flamboyant style - themed armies, cool looking armies, a decent paint job - if it has something over the other army then it makes me smile.

Why dont I do guns? Because AD doesnt need guns on his bug - hes a badass :D

That and the fact that the points involved making a decent gun fex are quite ridiculous - better to have a second carnifex or two in my opinion. I mean, a screamer killers only 113 compared to a decent gun fex is nearer 200 and up...

Until he plays his first game with them... :P

Your colour scheme sounds pretty interesting AD, are you gonna knock up a test mini for us to see, or are you going to be a cad, and make us wait...?

schoolcormorant - January 7, 2008 01:22 PM (GMT)
Regarding the colour scheme, i think it sounds natural, altho i really really can't help thinking that if i did tyranids there'd be some yellow involved. even yellow spots to indicate sort of blemishes, things like that.

May i congratulate you're iPod for coming to life, and say this is another win for the iPod lobby. ^^

DaCone2 - January 7, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
Sounds good indeed. When do you think you'll get a preview up?

Asmodai Dark - January 7, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Well Im hoping to have my film done in the next day or two, by which point my new room will be ready - as soon as Ive moved in there then I can really knuckle down, thats providing I dont have to spend next week diving around rubbish tips (Im filming an enviromental video for the council.. paid work.. woot!).

Anywho, because im quickly running out of time Ill probably use my aliens-style genestealers this month and then do a test mini on top of that

jasevx - January 7, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
Jesus, just film it in your room, thats a big enough Environmental issue! ;)

Jester - January 7, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
I have to agree with SC that the idea of the bugs sounds natural i've never been a big fan of pink tyranids.
the colour scheme sounds really interesting i'm looking forward to seeing your test model

and you gotta love alien genestealers :)

Look mate, you can be honest here.... we won't mind if you admit to bein a lazy student who can't be a55ed to wash/tidy up ;) I like to think of the ammo bunker as the caring sharing equal opportunities forum for us modellers! Hehe. (No students were harmed in the creation of this joke).

In fairness, I have just spent the weekend moving around 3 bedrooms worth of stuff to make room for the arrival of my next child, it is a nightmare I would rather have done without!

Can't wait to see your nids, I have a wee box of them sitting in my to do pile (along with IG, SM, Tau, Eldar, Chaos.........and I want Orks now too!).

you all know my feelings on you student types :P

come on, get a painting

MutantMaggot - January 8, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
This sounds good ... can't wait to see the 'nids. :)

I think yellow is a good idea, but only on the leaders perhaps, and not too OTT, or else it no longer looks realistic.

That's one messy room ...

Good to hear the iPod isn't as dead as it sounds like it was ...

Get painting!

MM :)

Asmodai Dark - January 10, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
Well, its 2:40, I've drank a whole bottle of Lucozade and two red bull so Im sugared up to my eye balls.

Anywho, kinda an uodate...

user posted image

Check it! The rooms done and Ive got stuff in...

user posted image

Sadly though, due to my film making and deadline worrying antics, I basically had to get all my stuff in the room ASAP.

So I'm not sat, working away, desperate to paint but having absolutely no chance of doing so if I want to get my degree :( Woe is me

However, weekend looms, and with it the arrival of my young padawan learner - Gaz - Painting is set to go through the roof in a rather massive way. On top of the nids, Ill be adding an Inquisitorial log to BOB (yep, Im definately doing two armies), trying to make a dent in my chaos.

On top of that, Gaz has just had a mini-him, meaning he needs to earn a bit of money. Cue a sack full of models, a bottle of easy green, and a plan so ballsy it might just work - Paint a 2000+ point ultramarine army, in a week, and ebay it hard!

schoolcormorant - January 10, 2008 11:19 AM (GMT)
Ultra's sell well, mine went on eBay, about 200pts painted for 140quid. not too bad.

Are these Gw "we're not camp honest" ultra's or darker ultra's?

SC

Asmodai Dark - January 10, 2008 11:27 AM (GMT)
Well see he has a pile of dark angels bits so I'm tempted to get him doing them instead...

Not sure, probably lighter ultra's as I like my traditional color schemes when it comes to space marines, but the newer style does sell well your right. Its just a case of getting that right... in a week... on a whole army.

Merceus - January 10, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
thats not painting... come on! lol

Asmodai Dark - January 11, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
Im busy making teh films! I am doing two armies as well *waves fist angrily*

I wont insubordination in ma regiment!

*Wanders off to buy a swagger stick to go with his swagger hat and pants*

ice - January 25, 2008 06:57 AM (GMT)
to go with all your swagering gear, do you want a motivational chomping cigar?
i recommend the STOG .45 Sargeant grade motivational chomping Cigar lol
two armies and a degree? THIS IS MADNESS!
would love to see some painted nids Asmodai as well as some pictures

Asmodai Dark - January 25, 2008 02:21 PM (GMT)
I nearly bought a pack of cigars the other day (I quite like them when Im in the mood) but I live in shared accomodation with a fire alarm thats damn sensative and its far too cold outside.

Well I'm off to dye my hair and such right now, but once its done Im going to spray my genestealers and either some of the marines Ive built or my storm troopers (havent decided yet as whilst I'd like to paint my storm troopers, I want to wait till I have the whole platoon). Update tonight!

TheGrizz - January 25, 2008 02:31 PM (GMT)
*Taps foot expectantly*

Photo's Asmodai, photo's... of 'actual' work please...

:P

Angel Robertson - January 25, 2008 02:49 PM (GMT)
I second the above statement!

What colour is the hair going to be?!

Asmodai Dark - January 25, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Give me an hour and ye shall discover!

charlie_c67 - January 25, 2008 03:25 PM (GMT)
Pink?

Asmodai Dark - February 1, 2008 12:19 PM (GMT)
I did have pictures but there all over in general discussion so no need for a pearoast

Sadly, life took over and Ive failed my first months BOB - not great considering I'm the fearless leader but hey, life happens and we live and learn. Im hopefully going to get my genesteallers finished today though as theres not much more left to do (except basing but I never do that till Ive finished an army anyways)

Angel Robertson - February 1, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
Get the pics of the stealers up!

AR

titan136 - February 1, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
for shame, fearless leader, for shame! :P

looking forward to seeing the stealers, how did you equip them? extended carapace i hope!

the_great_gonzo - February 1, 2008 04:21 PM (GMT)
 I have looked for these so called pictures in the general discussion thread, and unless it is handed over to me in bright pink neon lit wrappingpaper (can I have a link please?) I'm damned if I can find it!

Don't you just have lazy scare mongers?

Asmodai Dark - March 6, 2008 11:55 PM (GMT)
Im...actually doing an update!

No genestealers though - Ive stripped them once because there not what I want - I want sleek and black with definition but I keep just getting.. well.. they aint looking as cool as that warrior put it that way. I have his weapons there to add on so. Theres not that much work to do, its just... Im really not enjoying doing nids. I mean that first warrior is cool but knowing how many more Im gona have to do is getting depression so my thinking is.. paint the warriors, paint the carni, and switch to a Xenos hunting force of some kind.

Back to the drawing board for me.

schoolcormorant - March 6, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
Does look freakishly natural...

SC

Weregerbil - March 7, 2008 01:38 PM (GMT)
Holy crap an update. I likes the nids but then I likes gribbly things.

titan136 - March 8, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
Ah finally get to see your nids! I really like the raveners. Are they based off the OOp ravener bodies?
