my band of brothers entry
an osgiliouth themed gondor army
i have a partial list so far only 649 points but here it is
24 warriors of minas tirith with banner 217
5 knights of minas tirith 65
24 rangers of gondor 192
baromir captian of the white tower 175
as i siad its not done and ill add to it as i go
the only thing i have purchased so far is the warriors of minas tirith
im going to make it themed by making a display base for them, having rubble bases, and making some terrain to go with them. i think that qualifies as themed not sure tho
progress so far.
all assembled ant two painted for tests 1 failed test scheme (brown tunic) 1 winning test scheme (black tunic) but i think i might simplify it for the rest of em but it will still look good
assemled troops

winning scheme

workspace

off to undercoat them (by freakin hand cuz i been outa black spray for months now but my dad never tells me when he goes to da hardware store)
wish me luck

Very nice looking test model there; the armour is excellent.
Consider me subscribed :)

The armour looks great! Face looks very well done too, I always struggle with that on helmeted minis but yours looks excellent.
And yay for more LotR armies on this forum!

allright im doing 1 more testmini to nail down the exact formula for the army
so far all i gotz is da armour but for sum reason my camera wont recognize the pics so ill just wait till i finish some more stuff on him to get pics
the armour formula is a basecoat of boltgun metal then paint black ink in the cracks then highlight with mithril silver. its kind of stark but they look pretty striking on the table so far but it will be toned down with matte varnish. for the leather im thinking schorched brown basecoat mix in bleached bone for highlight and black scorched brown mix future wash
then the tunic chaos blackwith adeptus battlegray mixed in for highlightes
then flesh tallarn flesh with increasing amounts of skull white for highlightes
wow i might as well make a tutorial considering me diong that without even thinking about it
oh and ya i ordered the MIG FAQ book and itl be here on wednesday. not at all related to this tho

Looking very good :)
I would suggest maybe trying to neaten up the area around the shield designs, as it looks a bit messy on some of the models.

ya i noticed that
but i think i did pretty good considering i didnt finish these till 3am
i was so tired

prob the net thing ill do is make a tutorial

These guys look really good good :) i've always been a fan of the LotR mini's, but never really liked the game..
my one suggestion is maybe add a few small patches of static grass to the bases to brighten them up a tad?
fjk177222 - January 19, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
do you think i should brush the grass with some bleached bone to make it look kinda dead cuz its in a ruined city
Brush Your Teeth - January 20, 2008 01:04 PM (GMT)
its an idea, but im not sure how well the static grass would cope with the paint, maybe try getting some dead looking grass:
http://www.woodlandscenics.com/ (search for turf i think)
I know GW have released some new shades of grass as well, but im not familiar with what they look like.

I'd call it more of a tunic ... ;)
These are really good, though I'd echo what others have said: perhaps static grass?
And by the way, i'd heartily recommend Woodland Scenics, especially their trees (I have some myself). :)
