Title: Weregerbil's Brazen Claws Bob log.
Description: A log for BoB.
Weregerbil - January 4, 2008 02:17 AM (GMT)

Well I have 5K of marines to paint and thought that this Band of Brother thang would be a good place to start. After much searching and test schemes I have chosen to paint them as Brazen Claws. I like the colour scheme and I would like to see an army of them so i am going to do one.
Anywho on with the pics!
First up the test mini.

And this fist of this months painting, a tactical squad with a plasma cannon.

I will post more pics as I get the marines finished.
C&C as per normal.

Looks like a pretty cool choice of colors. An entire army of them would look sweet. 5k marines would just look... wow. Some small points of advice. I'm not sure you're going to do it already, but im pretty sure I see some flash lines on the spray painted models. Might just be my eyes but they're not that much work to take off. Another thing you might think of doing is drilling barrels on the guns. Good work and good luck finishing off the rest. I will definitely follow your progress. Any chance that you can take a picture of his right shoulder?
-Cheers

I told you what i think of them mate :)
and Chips is right, 5k of them would be pretty nice...

HI, they look cool! You seem to have got the quartering done nicely but camera angel isn't quite right to see. Brazen claws were always my favorite chapter colour scheme! Only got 1 and a half painted though.

they look cool mate!
Good luck dude! :)
Weregerbil - January 4, 2008 02:59 PM (GMT)
Here you go chips a pic of the right shoulder pad with my really bad attempt at doing a tact arrow, I am hoping I improve while doing this.

Cheers for the rest of the comments guys.
Arhalien - January 4, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
Got to love Marine chapter names: Brazen claws are red and blue, red scorpions are black. Somebody needs to teach them about colour :P
Nice work with the quartering; that should be a very striking army :)
Weregerbil - January 4, 2008 04:18 PM (GMT)
Cheers mate I hope they look good when done.
I am sitting painting up that tact squad just now so there may be pics later the night.
DaCone2 - January 4, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
Wicked mate!
What colours are you using?
TheGrizz - January 4, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
Argh! The bright colours! Very neat though mate. Question about the bolter though, perhaps you could do a test run with a model, and just leave it the usual black. It just seems to draw the eye away from the rest of the model that's all.
Maelstrom - January 4, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
very nice model dude, i very nearly did some brazen claws a few yrs back only managed to finish about 3 before i got distracted by something else lol they have a very nice scheme and i dont think i have ever seen an army of them.
As everyone else has said in a big group they will look very good, i agree with TheGrizz about the bolter though it does draw attention away from the main colours, on your next one try leaving it black and see how it looks :D
keep up the good work

DaCone2 - January 5, 2008 11:39 AM (GMT)
I third that!
Drill barrels too? Takes a while but really does add to it.
Konrad - January 5, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
Bold move doing the Brazen Claws. So far looking good. Keep it up yo

biscuit - January 7, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
Good stuff mate, although you be paintin as slowly as me......and that is not a good thing! :P
Weregerbil - January 9, 2008 06:44 AM (GMT)
Paul very few people paint as slowly as you, I think it might be some sort of virus you caught.
Anywho on to the updates. I have gotten four of the tac squad painted and just need basing now and the other six have had the blue done, here be pics.
Tac marine

side shot

Plasma gunner

Side shot

Another Tac marine

And side shot

And the last tac marine

And side shot

All four together

Side shot of all four so you can see my attempt at painting tac arrows.

And as above with flash, Which do you prefer?

And lastly the last six with just the blue done.

And with flash, again which do you prefer.

I took your guys advice and gave them black bolters and it does look a lot better. So on that note and thoughts on basing them?
Well since this is an update with a lot of pics you aint going to get one a while(that and I have a lot of uni work to do), unless I get bored that is.
C&C as normal.
Cheers.
TheGrizz - January 9, 2008 06:48 AM (GMT)
Mould lines! Bloody mould lines!
Apart from that, some seriously nice looking Brazen Claws mate!
With regards to basing, and this is simply what I do, sure there are others out there who can offer their ways of doing it...
Scorched Brown, drybrushed Bestial Brown, dryrbrushed Graveyard Earth (which also serves as the rim of the base), dryrbrushed Kommando Khaki, drybrushed (lightly) Bleached Bone. Spray with Purity Seal, and then flock the odd spot.
Hope that helps.
schoolcormorant - January 9, 2008 12:57 PM (GMT)
Doing good mate keep it up!

kiaoracrow - January 9, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)
Psh, like you do work for Uni.
In regards to the bases to a snow theme, snow themes always look good.
Black bolters look alot better. What might be an idea though is to put a black wash over the silver behind the knees and elbows.
Weregerbil - January 11, 2008 03:35 AM (GMT)
So I got bored tonight so started painting a land raider as well, might be pics tomorrow.
Dino - January 11, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
Very nice blue's Weregribil. This stuff looks like it'll look awsome when it's all finished. Good luck man.
Stagger_Lee - January 11, 2008 04:29 AM (GMT)
The pics with the flash look great. Really shows the colours better. The tactical badges look good despite your misgivings. They will get even better with practice.
Looking forward to the Landraider, should look awesome. You doing it in same quartered scheme or a different colour entirely with just the doors in Chapter colours?
Weregerbil - January 11, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
Cheers for the comments guys, still not sure about the tac badges may redo them at some point and in answer to your question Stagger it shall be quatered. Here be some pics, I got the blue started but as I am now ill the marines may be put on hold.

Well let me know what u all think then.
Cheers.
schoolcormorant - January 11, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)

Konrad - January 11, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
Looks good. Good point by Scoolie there.
Weregerbil - January 30, 2008 02:15 AM (GMT)
Well im back as of yet no more progress but by using advanced Dave maths I has two left and also by the fact that is me that means that I can easly get the tac squad finished to meet this months points requirement.
Stand by for updates!
Konrad - January 30, 2008 11:27 AM (GMT)
Stagger_Lee - January 30, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Don't expect any updates... Somebody spends all their time on Warcrack... :P

charlie_c67 - January 31, 2008 11:22 PM (GMT)
Looks good but one thing...Mould lines!!
Go for assault troops, something a little different keeps things fresh.
TheGrizz - January 31, 2008 11:23 PM (GMT)
Nice work mate! Seeing a whole mob of Brazen Claws on the table will certainly be a sight!
Do Assault Marines next, you know you want to...
Weregerbil - February 1, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments guys and I might very well do some assult marines next.
the_great_gonzo - February 1, 2008 09:30 AM (GMT)
really good colours there. A good attempt at freehand too (i'm not good enough/don't have a steady hand to do it) one thing to try with freehand is small paper stencils (i.e. cut out an arrow head) and use a soft pencil (2-3B) to draw round the edge of the stencil, you will achive a more uniform symbol. Not a criticisim, more observation.
Good work so far! Lets see that AV14 Behemoth painted!
Konrad - February 1, 2008 12:11 PM (GMT)
Looking good bro. Now will you attempt to paint the Chapter Symbol? yeah and do Assualt Marines next.
Weregerbil - February 6, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
Right then it shall be the assult marines and more of the landraider.
Arhalien - February 6, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
Nice, vibrant colours there :)
However, I would say that the yellow eagles on their chests look a bit flat and weak; I'd recommend giving them each another thin coat of yellow (not too much paint on the rbush to stop it going into the recesses, as it appears to have done on a few models I can see), then mix up a bit of yellow and white and try wetbrushing it over the eagle (basically drybrushing without a drybrush and with more control and more paint on the brush; make sure most of the paint is wiped away though or the layer will be too thick or go down into the recesses).
Maybe try that on a test model first as I don't know anythng about painting yellow; just an attempt at common sense advice ;)
KayvaanShrike - February 7, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
Looking good Dave..
Out of curiosity how does a 10 man tactical squad come to 225 points? My 10 man tactical squad with Vet Sgt with a Storm Bolter, Plasma Gun and Missile Launcher only comes to 190 points. Then again the Plasma Cannon is more, and if you gave them frag grenades, but even so, thats a damn expensive unit! lol
They look good though which is what is important.

Cheers for the comments guys and Gav your right it is only 210, read the wrong squads pts, oops.

Cool marines, liking that colour scheme. keep it up.
