Bought two Blades but neither are Bane Blades
Mr Zephy - January 3, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
Heresy!
One other thing: if it's to be winter camo, is a black or white undercoat better?
jasevx - January 3, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
i'd go black, because you need the white wash effect over it
Lt.Gregor - January 3, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
Well its how bright you want it I almost always use black and then work may way to white. Takes longer but you get the ... Duller colors effect. I find when using the white spray i get the NEON BRIGHT MUST DIE LIGHTING effects.
Digits - January 3, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
I agree. Start black then block brush a light grey then finish with dry brushed white. That way, you get good definition lines and highlighted details.
schoolcormorant - January 4, 2008 12:04 AM (GMT)
what sort of winter camo?
if it is whitewash, then best way is prime black as Digits said, then paint a mech colour (grey, green, brown, yellow, red - all primer coats) then mask off sections, spray white then weather the hell out of it. Twill give you this....

if its other winter camo, look up the guy who has a valhallan thread (damn his eyes, cant remeber is name!) cos his BB was trick

OT- nice to see another baneblade, i look forward to seeing it finished in all its painted glory.
MutantMaggot - January 4, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
Really awesome. :)
SC, that's a fantastic bit of weathering. :)
BTW, I have no baneblade. But probably because until I get the money for a CSM army I'll only be playing fantasy ... ;)

Well I only actually own black primer, so that means I can actually get started...
By masking, do you mean tape? or that paint stuff? If it's tape, where do you put it?
schoolcormorant - January 5, 2008 04:53 PM (GMT)
Not tape, you can use masking fluid, but the best masking fluid is... marmite, apply it to the edges, basically look at where the base tone comes through the white and apply it there, anywhere where wind/snow/rain can take off the whitewash etc.
spray it white, then wash with warm soapy water, leave to dry and then weather it back to hell ¬¬

Mr Zephy - January 5, 2008 06:08 PM (GMT)
I... see. Marmite. Well, you either love it or you hate it...
schoolcormorant - January 5, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Or you spread it on tanks ^^

charlie_c67 - January 6, 2008 06:25 PM (GMT)
That's cos the're worried you're gonna spray iy up your nose. Randomly you can buy deodorant however.
Mr Zephy - January 6, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)

Here's a look of two possible colour schemes befre the winter camo effect:

Which is better? Or a different one again?
freebooter - January 26, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
I'd say if you were doing a white wash the darker grey would be better.
One thing I've been trying with my Warmachine Cygnar is to block in the base colours (Fenris Grey and Space Wolves Grey) then water down Skull White till it has the consistancy of a watery ink. Then coat this on the model, multiple coats will be needed.
Then mix up a reddy/brown wash in the same way as the white wash, and coat everything... This adds a degree of shading and colour to the whitewash while weathering it to a degree.
Then go back and do a few more coats of white wash over the top. It's time consuming but it looks good.
If however you were going to go for a more camo stripe pattern I'd say the white and put grey, blue or green stripes over the top.
Mr Zephy - January 28, 2008 06:32 PM (GMT)
Would a dark grey and green scheme work?
