Title: BYT's winter cityfight Eldar.
Description: Eldar for Band of Brothers

Ok, just thought i'd set this up for my contribution to Band of Brothers.

My aim is to get 1500pts worth of eldar complete, the theme for the army is a wintery/artic look set in a city (think the pianist if anyones seen it) I've also got a number of cityfight buildings planned that should match the look of the army (well, their bases at least) that i will probably just stick in amongst the eldar stuff here if i find the time.. and to be honest ill be suprised if i keep to schedule with the eldar as it is :P

anyway, thats enough chat for now, heres my planned schedule:

Month 1:
Dire Avengers and Wave Serpent
Month 2:
Dire Avengers and Wave Serpent
Month 3:
Falcon + Vyper
Month 4:
Farseer + Fire Dragons
Month 5:
War Walker squadron
Month 6:
Fire Prism

among all this i've also got 10 rangers and the dire avenger phoenix lord (who's name i wont even attempt to spell) that i would like to complete in order to make the army capable of use in 1750pt games.

So far ive got all the stuff minus the fireprism built and undercoated and have made a slight start on month 1's stuff (as well as a few bits on rangers and the dire avenger phoenix lord guy)

Wish me Luck, BYT

P.S. if anyone can think of a slightly more inspiring name, let me know :D

Asmodai Dark - January 2, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Quite a nippy army (pun unintended) fella I look forward to seeing this progress although Im stumped for a name :D

Its a lot of tanks to be painting though... has to be said. Any reason for that amount or do you prefer a nippy army?

Brush Your Teeth - January 3, 2008 12:33 PM (GMT)
i just find being nippy suits the eldar codex well, and it makes a change to my guard armies (allthough one's mechanised so mobile, and i have a habit of charging my valhallans forwards - because they look russian..). I also find tanks easier to paint, mainly as they're drybrushed.. which works suprisingly well for eldar.

In painting news, ive just this morning finished the Dire Avenger Phoenix lord (which is 230pts!) and was going to get a photo, however my brothers got the camera.. also made a start on the month 1 pledge, the Serpents well on its way to being done, but the Avengers are going to take a bit longer.

Hopefully ill be able to get pics up before the weeks over

Ok, managed to get my hands on a camera, although it seems to be from the 90's so im having trouble getting consistent quality pics, but bad pics are better than no pics in my book, so here we go, an update!

Nice, I will keep an eye on this log, going for a city fight grey scheme is so totally against all the fluffyness of Eldar, I love it! (Watch fluff nazi's come out of the woodwork and shoot me down in flames now!). Go Space Elves of Gayness, Go!

hiveminion - January 17, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
Awesome work BYT! The scheme is brilliant, I love the striped helmet hair...things. The pose on the DA Exarch is kick [arse] too. B)

Oh, and the red cape is amazing! Excellent paintjob there!

Angel Robertson - January 17, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Love those dire avengers really eye catching and i love a cityfight theme!!

AR

TheGrizz - January 17, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
Seriously nice looking Exarch there mate. The cloak especially is very well done indeed!

Jester - January 17, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
i love the natural tones of your dire avengers i could really imagen them looking like that during a city fight or urban campaign and the pose of the exarch is wicked :)

Firestorm Falcon - January 18, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
Asureman's cloak is a lovely rich red that stands out really well against the whintery theme.

I'll be watching this.

Brush Your Teeth - January 27, 2008 01:21 PM (GMT)
Cheers for all the kind comments people :)

Pics aren't too bad ... mine are worse ... ;)

well done. These are looking very good: neat highlighting and generally a very well executed scheme. :)

Maelstrom - January 27, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
I agree pics aren't bad at all, really nice eldar there dude a good choice of colours that complement your theme.

Well done on finishing the first months stuff, keep up the good work

Keravin - January 27, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
The Wave Serpent looks really good in that colour scheme. Congrats on finishing the points this month.

titan136 - January 30, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
the army is looking good. it looks a lot more worn and gritty than a regular eldar army, perfect for city fight! Love the painting you did on asurman's helm, on all the dire avengers helms actually

Arhalien - January 30, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
Ooh, very nice BYT :)
The scheme is lovely and the white helmets are very well done; they look a bit blocky close up but excellent from a distance in that group shot.

Brush Your Teeth - January 30, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
cheers for all the comments guys :)

Arhalien, i'll admit that under close inspection these guys dont look great, but considering the 'tight' (its tight for the speed i paint at!) schedule im working to im happy with them, as long as they look good as an army on the table ill be happy. It's only when it comes to tournament armies i get anal and want to paint all my guys to look good.

also, i think im going to change the order in which im painting these guys, probably going to do the fire dragons and farseer next :)

Awesome work BYT, your army's really starting to come together! What you got planned for next month?

Brush Your Teeth - February 29, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
Next month will either be the next dire avenger unit and their wave serpent, or the falcon and vyper, just to make the fire dragons a 'complete' unit with their transport :)

Ok, day late but heres March's update (awful pic):

Decided not to bother with the wave serpent, going to do it alongside a couple of other vehicles to save time consideing they're largely drybrushed.

I've also been fairly busy with college (in the run up to my final exams)

Angel Robertson - April 3, 2008 10:06 AM (GMT)
Very cool mate i really like this colour scheme you have going on here!

What colour will the vehicles be?

AR

Brush Your Teeth - April 3, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Cheers AR, although i dont think their any match to your purple headed wariors! ;) :P

The vehicles will be predominantly a space wolf grey drybrush over fenris grey, with white 'arrows' (think sam hain [sp?])

BYT

titan136 - April 4, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
looking really good. i recently played a combat patrol tournament where i had my entire force of marines wiped out by bladestorming dire avengers. they are my bane!

Be interested to see how it looks as I'm thinking of a similar scheme with my Tau.

Deserter - April 5, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
They look really nice, the bases look good - although I'm not sure about the sidings, I think black would distinguish them better and really finish them off. Although thats upto you, obviously :)

Tony88 - April 6, 2008 09:20 AM (GMT)
Very nice Eldar, Brush Your Teeth. A very striking scheme also! Hope you keep this up!

TheGrizz - April 6, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
And I thought I was slow with the updates at times...

Very nice work as always though mate. Perhaps a few WIP shots next time, I've found that it's a good way to keep your motivation going!

LoL

Good idea with the WIP updates, the problem with half of this stuff the WIP updated would generally end up being posted on the day before the finished updates! (aka the 29th/30th).

I've currently hella busy with college, so im getting through the month then realising i've done sweet FA for this so do it all a couple of days before the end of the month.

so i guess in a way the log is working.. as its making me stick to deadlines i otherwise wouldnt have..

@ Deserter, i'll admit the bases look a bit plain just grey, but once they have snow they look better (imo)

cheers for the comments guys, and also i've got my easter break at the moment, so if your very very lucky, i may have some updates before the end of the month! :o

Firestorm Falcon - April 6, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
Hmm, nice work as ever BYT.

can I surgest watering down the white a little to try to stop it looking quite so thick in the close up pics, although TBH on the battlefield no-one is going to notice

Brush Your Teeth - April 6, 2008 10:29 PM (GMT)
its not really thick, its just not enough thin layers, and the space wolf greys still showing through a bit as the white's a bit streaky.

Brush Your Teeth - April 11, 2008 12:21 PM (GMT)
Righto, from here on i pledge to try and update this log at times other that the last of the month :D

Got an update for y'all

the blue-greys almost finished, as are the canopies, next up i'll be doing all the black, then i've just got the white, silver and all the gems to do, then i need to try and sort the bases out.

apologies about the picture quality

jasevx - April 11, 2008 12:34 PM (GMT)
Are they spray or hand brushed? they look good enough to be sprayed, awesome work!

Angel Robertson - April 11, 2008 03:22 PM (GMT)
Very cool! The canopies look sweet bit nicer in a way to your usual blue canopies or the see thru plastic!

AR

Brush Your Teeth - April 11, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Cheers guys,

Jase, they're hand brushed, its fenris grey with a quick brush of 2:1 fenris grey:space wolf grey followed by a space wolf grey drybrush

AR, glad you like them, i've never been a fan of the see through canopies, always thought they looked kinda cheap, and this armies a re-paint of my old eldar stuff so i didnt want the old pilot paint jobs on show.

I just need to try and work out what im going to do for the warwalkers, im not sure if blacked out canopies will work given the inside is on show, im half considering not using them (which may be good as im not sure where i put them for 'safe keeping')

BYT

Brush Your Teeth - April 17, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
right, 17th and i've finished month 4's stuff already! (well more or less, the white needs a few more coats, but i gave up for want of my sanity)

Pictures arent great, but when the armies completed i'll try and sort something better out :)

and got the snow done all the bases, so a quick group shot:

Not sure how many points this is now, i'll work that out and post it up later

The army's looking great. Really works together well and the white looks good.

Digits - April 17, 2008 10:59 AM (GMT)
Fantastic army! Really nice paint scheme and I like the canopies!

titan136 - April 17, 2008 01:05 PM (GMT)
Great looking army BYT. The white accents and purple gems really go well with the paintjob on the skimmers. What are you using for snow? Baking soda?
