Title: Savage's Log With Possible Purple
Description: Band of Brothers Project Log - Empire
Savage - January 2, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
Ok guys i have rather a lot of empire to paint and the band of brothers comp seems like as good a time to do it as any. I really could do with someone there to make me paint...weregerbil tried...but hes not as scary as he thinks he is :ph43r: .
So here is my idea for a 2000pt Empire army. Which i believe i am going to paint in talabecland red and yellow...but that could change after a test model lol. Anyway...here is the list:
Lord
Templar Grand Master - 230pts
holy relic, sword of power
Heroes
Battle Standard Bearer - 115pts
armour of meteoric iron, sword of might
Battle Wizard - 145pts
dispell scroll, ring of volans
Battle Wizard - 135pts
dispell scroll, wizards staff
Core
Swordsmen x21 - 151pts
full command
Detatchment - Halberdiers x10 - 50pts

Detatchment - Halberdiers x10 - 50pts
Handgunners x10 - 80pts
Handgunners x10 - 80pts
Knights x5 - 155pts
full command
Knights x6 - 178pts
full command
Special
Pistoliers x5 - 114pts
musician, outrider - repeater pistol
Mortar - 75pts

Welcome to the Amobunker :)
Well.... firstly 9 knights is too much; I see where you're going by putting your grand master in to get a rank, but only 1 casualty and taht rank is gone and it makes the unit very expensive. Stick with 5 or 6 run 6 wide.
Also,m the heltorm is considered very unreliable, but I have no idea bout that myself.
Otherwise, that looks like a nice solid list :)
Looking forward to seeing some pics
Weregerbil - January 2, 2008 02:55 PM (GMT)
Not that scary eh? Well I could just walk around the house butt naked till you agree to paint.
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
Please don;t take any pictures of that!! : :o

 I...I...oh god i have no intention to
I did at one time have 2 units of 6 knights...but found that unless both units hit together they didnt hit hard enough...but that was without the grand master i guess. a unit of 5 and a unit of 6 it may be then...i shall amend later :P

A fairly solid list but with some tweaking it can be better. First get rid of the sword on the grand master and give him the Laurels of Victory. Trust me those things have saved my knights in close combat more than once(expecially against the new High Elves). Second don't make Handgunners as detachment. Instead make them their own unit and replace them for Archers as detachments. As far as knights go it's up to you. The Helstorm can actually be fairly reliable if you fight horde armies of youre opponent has backed himself into a little corner. And even better you don't need line of sitto use it and has a longer range.
Thats all the advice I can give you for now.

Ok for my first batch of models ill be painting:
1 unit of swordsmen, the halbedier and handgunner detatchments and a mortar. this comes to a nice 350pts.
so far i have these undercoated...exept the halbediers.
Swordsmen

Handgunners

Halbediers

Mortar

Looks great matey. Proper scruffy and dirty looking Empire man. I like the extreme contrast on the shield. Really does the business.
Army list looks pretty darn competent. Personal preference would be the Sword of Sigismund instead of the Sword of Power. It's an extra 5 points but you trade in a point of strength for always striking first. With the high(ish) initiative of a Grand Master, he may be able to strike before most High Elf infantry. With the number of High Elf armies appearing now, it may be something to consider. Just my zwei pfennig.

Cheers...nice and scruffy lookin was what i was goin for. i dont like those empire armys that look like they have never seen a good fight :P
As far as the sword of power vs sword of sigismund...id go with the power. the intention being that battles iv played so far have shown that power to be better. plus against the high elves...i should...and i say should...be able to get a flank charge anyways. atleast based on the fact that from the armys iv seen in edinburgh...i outnumber them. so...thats the plan anyway. ill get it play tested and get back to u if your right :D

Dino - January 5, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
Very nice. The yellow is really good. How hard was it to paint the yellow?
Konrad - January 5, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
Looks good dude. And a man who has yellow and red empire i can tell you it aint fun to do but yours came out well. Did you use foundation paints?
Savage - January 6, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
The yellow was done with Calthan Brown as a base. then with a 50/50 mix of Bestial Brown and golden yellow. finished with golden yellow. never painted yellow before...tis a bit of a bitch but i think i got it down lol. takes the most time by far, but i like the results :)
cheers for the nice comments...and yes a game would be ace...perhapes after that a game of the yellow and red empire konrad? lol :D
