Title: KiaOraCrows Project Log
Description: Tomb Kings for Band of Brothers

kiaoracrow - January 2, 2008 12:24 PM (GMT)
Ok, so after having done very little on these decided to try to get them done this new year.
My goal is to try to do a fully themed army with my tomb kings, everything else i have is pretty much the standard GW models, so i'm stretching my wings a bit here.

The main theme of the army is the standard egyptian tomb kings based around the serpent god, so lots of snake iconography (pretty sure thats a real word)

Below is the army list for the army, so you get an idea of what i need to paint and the points.

Tomb Prince – 152

Liche Priest – 165

10x Skeletal Warriors – 80

10x Skeletal Warriors – 80

26x Skeletal Warriors – 259

3x Chariots – 120

3x Chariots – 120

2x Tomb Swarms – 90

15x Tomb Guard – 235

Tomb Scorpion – 85

Screaming Skull Catapult – 110

I'll try to get some pictures of the grey plastic up so you can see where i'm at with it.

I'll be interested to see more as my wife's quite keen on pilfering my Dad's Khemri off him to paint up herself.

Will get the pics of the greenstuffed bowmen up once i'm done.

That looks pretty damn good. Really good job. My only piece of advice is to maybe shade the skeleton coming out of the ground. Some ink might make it look really cool.
Keep up the good work. I'm subscribed to this log.

kiaoracrow - January 5, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Right, i've finnished sculpting the wrist guards on the bowmen, just got to do the tips of the bows and then various assorted armour on them. should hopefully have the sculpting finished by wednesday and then the painting done by friday.

No pics, will post pics when i get the green stuffing done.

jasevx - January 5, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
Really like the colour contrast, seeing I'm working on Tomb Kings at the mo, gives me some ideas!

biscuit - January 5, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
Good work mate! i like the standin on skeleton pose! :)

DaCone2 - January 6, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)

love the GS sculpting on the bows, keep it up :)

Arhalien - January 7, 2008 09:37 AM (GMT)
Me likey, me likey lots :)
The green and gold scheme works very well, and the liche priest is nicely done.
I'd second chip's recommendation for some shading on theskellie on the base, and I'd also say that some very fie edge highlights of a silver colour on the gold would improve those sections quite a bit; if you look at all eavy metal paint jobs their gold is highlighted up to silver.

Good work so far; consider me subscribed :)

Maelstrom - January 7, 2008 10:03 AM (GMT)
Great GS work there dude, the cobras on the bows look amazing you'll definitely have a really good themed army at the end of this.

keep up the good work

That's almost as much green stuff work as i have to do! hehe

lookin good mate

will need to give ye a game at some point aswell

kiaoracrow - January 7, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
@Biscuit, I'm pretty sure the scratched built tomb spiders (Tomb Scorpions) will be a pretty damned big amount of green stuff.

I've now finnished the top of the bows, jsut the bottom halves and then the armour and its ready for painting.

@Arhalien
Thanks for the advice and Yeah, in hindsight i should have used a flesh wash with graveyard earth in the receses again, not much i can do now its varnished.
I also dont really want to use silver on the gold because it will lighten it too much, im trying to keep the gold looking darker so it doesnt get lost in the mass of bleached bone that will appear.

Jester - January 7, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
as everyone else has said fantastic green stuff work matey :)
your liche guy is really good also i love the colour of the skin i think it really suits the model!
good work :)

TheGrizz - January 8, 2008 12:09 AM (GMT)
Right, I'm repeating what most folk have said, but hey, those bow tips are really something.

I take it that the reason for them will be tied up in the fluff for your army? Or is it just because it looks so good on them?

kiaoracrow - January 8, 2008 08:02 AM (GMT)
Pretty much cos it looks cool, as i said in the firstpost the entire army is based around the snake god, so everything has lots of snake stuff on it, i'm sure i can make some fluff up but really, i just want a cool looking army with a theme.

kiaoracrow - January 9, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)
Finnished the sculpting, will get them undercoated tommorow. No pics unfortunately.

Should have them finnished by friday/saturday evening.

kiaoracrow - January 17, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
Got 3 of them painted now. Pics below.

Great skellies! How are you painting the bone?

AR

KayvaanShrike - January 17, 2008 08:00 PM (GMT)
They are cool, good GS work mate.

Are you by any chance Brandon(sp?) that goes to the ELG? If so I am Gav btw, the guy who was playing Dave at 40k last night.

If your not, then I just made an [arse] of myself!

kiaoracrow - January 17, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
yes i am Brendan.

The bone is done with a fleshwash/snakebite leather 50/50 mix watered down. Then i highlight with bleached bone then highlight down ending with a bleached bone/white 50/50 mix.

MutantMaggot - January 17, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
I really like these: a very nice scheme, especially the use of green, which is uncommon but very good-looking among TK. :)

Jester - January 17, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
awesome stuff mate!
this is shaping up to be a army full of character i really like the way you have done the gold :)
good work pal

KayvaanShrike - January 17, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
Ahh, koolio, pleased to meet you sah!

Whats next for the Skellies then?

Weregerbil - January 18, 2008 02:38 AM (GMT)
I think that the pic taking is awesome as well as the skellies and who ever took the pics should be givein beer.

Lt.Gregor - January 18, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
Are you going to add some thread/string to the bows to show the bow string? I think that would really make them stand out.

kiaoracrow - January 19, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
No, Mainly because when its done well it looks awsome, any other time it looks [Not on the floor please]. And only really works if they are preparing to fire ie drawing the strings back. Other than that it doesnt look that great, its just guitar wire hanging there.

Brush Your Teeth - January 19, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
These guys are looking really good so far, are you going to be attempting to convert every model in the army? as that would look sweet.

keep it up :)
