Title: Arhalien loses his mind
Description: High Elves for the Band of Brothers
Arhalien - January 1, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)

(well everyone else seems to be doing it ;))
Hi everyone. you may have seen this project so far in my general log, but as it's been a bit slow moving I've decided to join the Ammobunker Tale of Gamers with this army to try and get some work done on it.... as well as doing my Warseer ToP Wood Elves and schoolwork. Yep, I am mad.
Here's how the repainted section stands so far:

So, here';s the 1500pt list I'm working towards for this army:
Caradryan=175
Mage, lvl2, seerstaff, dispel scroll=185
Noble, barded steed, sword of might, enchanted shield, guardian phoenix=153
20 spearelves, warbanner (just to get it to 1500 ;)), FC=225
10 archers=110
15 swordmasters, FC=255
5 Phoenix Guard, FC=105
Tiranoc Chariot=85
2RBTS=200
Which comes to 1493.
This month I'll be doing the spearelf regiment and possibly a phoenix guardsmen if I have time.
I'd already started work on thsi regiment earlier in december and have 9 finished (5 with shields), but AD, being very kind has let me use them for this month.
Here they are so far:

I'll post WIP pics of the next 4 tomorrow when I can get my hands on the camera.
Thanks for looking!
edit: Oh, for those of you confused about why this is a separate thread, it's because there am,y eventually be a subforum for this and I didn;t want to have my whole log moved to it; this log will deal with the High Elves, my general log will be everything else ;)
Firestorm Falcon - January 1, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
You know what I think of these.
Oh and I didn't know you had PG. Why a unit of 5?
Arhalien - January 1, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
That's all I got for Christmas ;)
Traitor King - January 1, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
An awesome start, LOVE the red and white sceme.
what be them shields on the bttom spearmen unit? they dont look like the ones in the box to me...
Oh, I just need to mention how the banner at the top makes me feel infirior. k?
Dino - January 1, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
Very nice start to youre High Elves Arhalien. Now I have wet another log out of the dozens I like to look forward to. Good luck man.
Arhalien - January 1, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
@Traitor King; thanks :) There are three shield symbols in the box; the ones used by Eavy metal, a similar design but with wings, and those ones. I'm regretting using them now actually.
Glad you like the banner; a lovely looking bit of sculpting but a paint to paint ;)
Oh, that reminds me; this army is being repainted atm as they were my first army done a year and a half ago; I didn;t know about highlighting, mould line removal or paint thinning ;) I'm stripping the metals but the plastics are just resprayed; stripping plastic is just too much hassle.
edit@ damn, ninja'd :D Thanks Dino; just felt I'd keep you on your toes :P
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 11:11 AM (GMT)
As promisd, I've taken WIP pics of the spearelves I'm currently working on. I still need to do the spearshafts, the black, the bases and the touching up (and the shields.... but they're being done later)

I also went a little bit further and decided to take pics of the current status of everything I'm painting for this (except the phoenix Guard which I forgot ;))
So, unpainted spearelves:

Swordmasters with a test model

Archers with a test model

Repeater Bolt Throwers

Caradryan WIP

Mtd noble

Mage

Chariot

Not only does this show you how bad my painting was.... but also just how much I;m going to have to do here.... help!
Thanks for looking!
Firestorm Falcon - January 2, 2008 11:43 AM (GMT)
Hmmm well that was a pit of a picture frenzy wasn't it Arhalien.
Caradryan is looking promising, the spearelves are well they're almost finnished (Joking, they look fine):).
As for the rest, they show how much you've improved :D.
Get on with it! :)
MutantMaggot - January 2, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
That's a lot left to do ... good luck. You'll need it. :)
Everything looks good (as FF said, it does also show how you've improved: a lot. :) ). :)
Can't wait to see this progress.
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 11:47 AM (GMT)
@FF: thanks :) I'm personally very pleased with Caradryan. And stop making fun of the spearelves! :P
@MM: Thanks :) I just hope I can manage to do it.
Oh, does anyone have any suggestions on what colour I should paint Caradryan's hair? I'm not sure myself.
MutantMaggot - January 2, 2008 11:50 AM (GMT)
I'd recommend blonde, as for most elves, but I presume you mean painting-wise?
bestial brown witjh highlights of bestial brown mixed with white, golden yellow and perhaps a tiny hint of gold?
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 11:52 AM (GMT)
Hehe, blonde is the one hair colour which hasn;t featured in this army at all; I don't think that it works witht he dark bronze and red personally.
Thanks for the suggestion though; I may try it out on a spare archer to see how it loks :)
schoolcormorant - January 2, 2008 11:54 AM (GMT)
Tolkien's elves never had blonde hair, apart from the noldor. It's for that reason that Glorfindel was so revered, his blonde hair. House of the golden flower or something, I can't fully remember.
Anyway, this ain't tolkien, but i still think a kind of brown would be best.
MM - nooo never use yellow in blonde hair mate! bubonic brown, mixed with bleached bone is teh best bet. Or snakebite leather adding in bleached bone.
SC
MutantMaggot - January 2, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
dark browen perhaps, then?
SC: Ok, proven wrong. :) But then again I've never tried painting blonde hair, just goiung for what sounded right.
BTW, in response to the title: have you looked behind the sofa?
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 11:56 AM (GMT)
Hmm maybe
And what makes you think I want to find my mind again? :P
schoolcormorant - January 2, 2008 11:59 AM (GMT)
MM - i wasn't trying to disprove you lol. Just exercising a personal opinion.
altho last time i got arrested on "holocaust denial" charges.
SC
MutantMaggot - January 2, 2008 12:05 PM (GMT)
Holocaust denial? Arrested?
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 12:23 PM (GMT)
@MM: Maybe that sig is just a bit too big? :P
MutantMaggot - January 2, 2008 12:26 PM (GMT)
It's exactly the same length as SC's, but it looks longer... :P
Arhalien - January 2, 2008 12:28 PM (GMT)
I'll take your word for it, I'd rather not examine SC's too closely.... :P
MutantMaggot - January 2, 2008 12:31 PM (GMT)
Perhaps a line longer. The image is 250 x 250 pixels.
And that seems a good idea ... mind you, his posts are the harmful part ... :P
Arhalien - January 3, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
Update!
I;ve finished the 4 spearelves i showed on the last page, and started the command group. Sorry for the bad pics; I did them in a bit of a rush:

Thanks for looking!
jasevx - January 3, 2008 01:15 PM (GMT)
really coming on well, tho I'm biased with Elves!
Arhalien - January 3, 2008 02:02 PM (GMT)
Thanks Jase :)
And biased for what reason? ;)
jasevx - January 3, 2008 02:24 PM (GMT)
I'm a LotR elf player, tho they've been boxed up for a while!
Arhalien - January 3, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Nice :)
Somehow can;t imagine you playing anything without tanks though Jase... :P
jasevx - January 3, 2008 02:28 PM (GMT)
Sally? Oh that includes tanks....
Arhalien - January 3, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
I was actually referring to the Elves but..... :P

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH i can imagine,
get the mounted nobile done, the model is awesome, nice phoenix banner too
Arhalien - January 3, 2008 02:58 PM (GMT)
Thanks Kev :)
Erm, the mounted Noble may be coming in a few months: This month is the spearelves and a few pheonix Guard, next month is finishing Caradryan and doing the chariot; after that I haven;t decided, although I am tempted by the mounted noble :)
Arhalien - January 6, 2008 02:12 PM (GMT)
Update!
The command group is finished (I'll be doing some sort of freehand rune on the banner when I can get a better detail brush) and I've got pics. I've tried to do these using daylight only, so if they're no better than the last lot please say and I'll go back to the old method.

This is also partly so AD can find the log more easily to move it :P ;)
Thanks for looking!
Jester - January 6, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
I really like the way you've done the armour on your HE its nice to see some one break from the mythrel(sp) silver blue wash approach :)
any idea on how your gonna paint the pheonix guard ?
and for detail brush invest in a windsor newton series7 they are exspensive but worth every penny!
i'll never use gw brushes again :)
MutantMaggot - January 6, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
[repeat post from WarSeer herte]
[repeat same commetn as last time here] :P
These are very nice. And yes, I'm lazy. :P
detail brushes: no idea as to what to use, but any good craft shop should have good brushes. :)
MM :)
Dino - January 6, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Very nice Arhalien. I really like the red on them. How do you get the wood colors on them though?
Arhalien - January 6, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
@Jester: Given the way I treat my brushes I think maybe cheaper ones may be better.... although GW are hardly good value ;)
Phoenix guard will be pretty much to the same formula as everything else; silver scale, bronze armour, white robes, bits of red over the place. I'm not going to risk freehand on the robes though; I don;t want to risk messing up such large expanses of white which will presumably be quite irritating to paint ;)
@MM: Lazy :P
@Dino: Thanks :) The wood (i take it you mean the spears) is incredibly simple (I hate painting things like spears and lances); Dheneb stone, kommando khaki.... and that;s it ;)
Arhalien - January 13, 2008 11:27 AM (GMT)
UPDATE!!11
I've finished the last 4 spearelves of the unit and painted all the remaining shields, so, with the exception of a rune on the banner the unit is finished:

(I'm going to get out my old camera and see if that's any better than this :()
I've also had a look at Caradryan and decided that I've done too much work on him already to count him as part of this, so he's ben dropped from the list, as has the warbanner on the spearelves to take it down to 1300pts. So I'll be finishing this month's painting just with the spearelves, unless I can get the pieces to make a mounted BSB using the horse from the mounted mage kit.
Does that make sense? :P
Thanks for looking!
MutantMaggot - January 13, 2008 01:36 PM (GMT)
Sense? What sense? Where? His post? Nah ... impossible ... :P
Seriously, the answre is: yes, it does. And those are awesome spearelves. :)
MM
schoolcormorant - January 13, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
lovely smooth work on the red on the shields. Lovely painting as usual mate
SC
Arhalien - January 13, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
@MM: Thanks :)
@SC: thanks also ;) Mechrite red is incredibly useful for the shields :)
Asmodai Dark - January 13, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
It makes a lot of sense fella - what pieces are you after exactly?
