Are librarians not meant to have some blue?

only stinky stilton librarians

mephiston has no blue ;)

and if it's good enough for the chapter librarian it's good enough for mine

edit: and oh, i just realised i can move him as if he was wearing a jet pack, as wings of sanguinius can be used by models in terminator armour :D

DaCone2 - January 1, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
I've always thought, at the end of the day, you are buying and painting them. If you want your models to look like mr blobby on acid its up to you.

DaCone2 - January 1, 2008 10:44 PM (GMT)

haha, i knew (or hoped i knew) that you didn't mean mine, it's not pink enough, but i do agree with you, i mean, they cost us so damn much we should be able to do what ever the hell we like to em ^^

anyways, an update on the libby:

the shades on the cloak look really noticable when it's shown big like this, but in real they are actually very un noticable

TheGrizz - January 2, 2008 03:02 PM (GMT)
Very nice red. Vibrant and bold. Are you planning on putting any varnish on it once it's completed?

Firestorm Falcon - January 2, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
The blue's a nice contrast and it work well keep at it.

DaCone2 - January 2, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
Coming along well! I can't be bothered to do that many layers on something :)

I would do the band of brothers thing but i paint so slowly . . .

i think it's eight layers for the cloak and similarly coloured bits  i think i went a bit mad, the blue will probably be four layers+

yes, i will be varishing it, but i will be painting it on so i can be selective (ie not hit the face(which isn't likely to get chipped or anything anyway)

hope to have it finished by tomorrow, as friday i go nuts and get paid (not in that order :P). and will be inundated with more bits (i've kinda ran out of stuff i can actually paint for this log at the moment, my librarian and 4 more death company are all the blood angels models i have atm :P)

Lord Commander Eidolon - January 2, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
i like the way your red has turned out on your libby

DaCone2 - January 2, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
Blimey, and i thought 4 was overkill . . .

not pleased with the face, but i never am (i hate painting faces, its a major fall down :() which is why the rest of my BA will be helmeted

anyway, the rest of it i'm fairly pleased with :)

edit: he will be properly based eventually, hoping to pick up 2 WH40K basing kits on friday, so i'll update it as and when i've done it

charlie_c67 - January 3, 2008 01:55 AM (GMT)
Nitpick: You missed a skull!

Looks fantastic though.

Lord Commander Eidolon - January 3, 2008 01:55 AM (GMT)
AMAZING,the face is good quality mate dont worry about it

Asmodai Dark - January 3, 2008 02:03 AM (GMT)
How on earth did you do that red?

I think you could do a much better job on the robes though - it shows you understand the technique but a bit of a smoother transition would take it a long way - aside from that youve done a great job on him mate :)

I the great Carnak have the answer here in this envelope...

It is....

Blood red, highlighted with Apocalypse red (or whatever they are calling dark orange these days) and then a red (or Chestnut or purple) ink glaze over the top.

not quite my friend ;) but theres not much difference

blood red
blazing orange highlights
firey orange on some of the blazing orange

wash of around 4-6 parts flesh ink and 1 part varnish

and thanks for all the compliments (and nit picks guys)

thanks for the comments on the cloak but it really is only noticable when its at 400% the size i swear

Brush Your Teeth - January 3, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)

DaCone2 - January 3, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
Looking good Bod, how long did it take you and how will you base it?

took a while, if i add up the time i was actually sat down and concentraiting on it (rather then watching stargate) it was probably 5-6 hours.

the base will be something from the WH40K basing kit (i'm buying 2 tomorrow...hopefully)

i took part in a 1,500pt game down the local tonight, i have to say i was very impressed with my death co. and my one squad of tac marines (+razorback)

played against necrons, wiped a 5 base strong scarab squad on turn 1 (just with the death co.)

knocked a wound of the deciever with the lascannon on the razorback

turn 2 and i wiped a unit of destroyers and consolidated into the c'tan with my death co. (i lost one model to around 40 shots from the necrons in their shoting phase, my team mates were suitably impressed :P)

necron turn 2 saw me knock another wound off the c'tan (whilst he destroyed most of the rest of my squad)

lost most of the tac squad necron turn 2 aswell

got slaughtered by the c'tan, in turn 3 but took another wound off it in turn 4

by which time i only had the razorback left, but had done enough damage/held of the c'tan long enough to let my two death wing team mates get their termis into CC.

the rest of the game was spent in a massive termi/deciever/necron brawl with me taking potshots with my razor back at the necrons trying to stay out the fighting.

game ended with us phasing the necrons out.

it was hard fought, and we lost a quarter of the death wing (25 termis :P azrael will not be happy). but we won :D

russian_ben - January 3, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
when playing necrons its best just to wipe out the wariors just ignore monliths and c'tan and go for a phase out

i couldn't reach the warriors, and not wanting to risk another 40 shots i made the tactical descision to hold up the c'tan, and stop him from destroying terminators, that action probably won us the game as the termis had 4 turns in which they didnt have to worry about the c'tan

russian_ben - January 3, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
how can 40 shots kill any space marine 3+ plus faith in the emperor those necrons have no chance :P

bringerofdecay - January 4, 2008 12:08 PM (GMT)
heres what i got today:

got a 40k basing set and 2 razorback squads coming tomorrow (why can i never get half of what i want in store

Merceus - January 4, 2008 12:49 PM (GMT)
ooh... terminators!

ooh... ogres!

lol, wait... you're telling me that all those millions of basing kits are gone?

DaCone2 - January 4, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
With necrons, monoliths and c'tan are a huge pointsink that means you have to kill a lot less models to make them phase out.
Try and avoid C'tan if you can, it can only move 6 inches a turn remember.
Another things to remember with fighting necrons is if he has units waiting to come through the monolith, if you kill the monolith before they do, they count as destroyed ( although you do of course have to actually kill the damn thing first . . . )
