Title: Tony's Terrain of all types!
Description: From Cities of Death, to Tyranid pools!
Tony88 - December 18, 2007 09:39 AM (GMT)
Well since i'm going to be gaming a lot in my time off work, i decided to paint and build up some terrain.
Firstly, as you know, is my crashed space shuttle, i did a month ago, im happy with it, but i plan to rebase the dirt to suit city fight situations, as a ship crashed into the city during a huge battle campaign...
Ill upload pics of it later :)
Here is a Tyranid pool thingo thats WIP im working on....

Anyway, there will be a lot of Urban Barricades painted, and during my fortnight off work, i plan to build a huge tabletop, so stay tuned :)

Great, it will be nice to see some more terrain in these logs! Looking forward to what you come up with Tony.

Cheers Digits, yeah most of my terain is either GW, Tamiya or toy car set stuff, but i'll add my own spin to them. Using toy car roads, all blown up and battle damaged for my huge high away im doing, it'll have the bridge blown up, and a valley underneath etc. I have a box of zombies, as well as a Cadian box i bought today, for corpses and stuff :D
Be prepared for a lot of gruesome, sick, corpse filled terrain too, basically stuff like corpses of dead soldiers piled up as cover, Cadians blown apart, guts sprayed all over highway roads, stuff like that
I also plan to make an old abandoned tank production factory, with tanks being constructed etc

The tray is YET to be filled with goo so far. It's far from finished :)
As for the colours:
The blue is GW Foundation Mordian Blue drybrushed, then drybrushed with Mordian Blue mixed with a bit of white, then lightly drybrushed 50/50 MB and white.
I gave them a quick drybrush of the brown on the bottom of them to tie them into the base a bit.
The base itself is a texture movement tray for Warhammer Fantasy, i just shaved down the spears and stuff on the sides, and filled it in with dirt. The tentacle thingos are from the Battle For Macragge set.
I'll mix some water effects with a dark reddish ink and pour it in once i get it.
Anyway, hope that answers your question Kev.

that looks good so far. I really would like to see some of this "gruesome" terrain, sounds cool.

Not sure about the square base, would have looked better with rounded edges or built up maybes. I like the colours, but why is the marine helmet the same colour? :)

Tyranids are all about curves and organic looking stuff. Made out of material they produce. Like the xenomorph in Aliens.
They ain't renowned for having skills when it comes to making right angles :P Ah well!

I might make it that is a water section at a sewage farm, and they've slowly infested it! yep!

I'm interested in what you do with this pool, sounds like a great idea, because I got my 10 year old cousin Battle of Macragge for Christmas...oh the fun of being a mentor to be had!

Sorry for the sh*t pics, i still can't take photos decently :(
Anyway, i'm happy with this, looks great in person. I drybrushed it Codex Grey, then painted the bike in usual Ultramarines colours, and i washed everything with a dark green wash, then a black/brown wash, heaps watered down. I waited till it dryed then drybrushed it Graveyard Earth in some sections (particularly on the bike to make it look dusty), and then drybrushed it Fortress Grey.
The urban barricades look nice, but are proving to be a challenge for me painting wise :( , too much detail!
Old Guard - December 23, 2007 10:04 AM (GMT)
Dont worry about the detail too much every thing would be covered in dust anyway, so, as long as you are showing main colours of what makes the barricade up, it should work. Dry brush everything to death with a dusty concrete/masonry like colour and it should be fine. The one you have shown looks good I would have just chosen a colour other than space wolves for the bike to make that stand out a bit and then tone it back down with the dirt. (or on second look is that ultramarine blue? ...note to self eyetest in the new year.)
Tony88 - December 23, 2007 11:11 AM (GMT)
Ultramarines.
And thanks for the tip.

The barricade looks good, your getting me all hot and bothered to actually do something with my own set of those...

I got bored and p*ssed off with everyone today, had a sh*te day at work, and everyone at home was giving me sh*t, and then i had an argument with the girlfriend, but anyway, figured i'd make some quick terrain. Took me an hour to do.
It's nothing flash, but it's good enough for some removable terrain.
Lord Commander Eidolon - January 8, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
thats pretty good mate, nice and effective, looks like it didnt take you long
Tony88 - January 26, 2008 10:37 AM (GMT)
Well i decided on building an administrative building for a terrain piece. I wondered for ages how i would do a marble floor, but when i was at the shopping plaza, i saw something and my mind went "ooooh ill use that!". It's book contact paper, they use it for covering school exercise books for school kids and it looks like real marble. It's sticky, which is a bonus.
I also acquired from a cheapo shop (Mavricks) some thin small MDF boards to base my buildings on, only cost me 5 bucks for a few of them.
Anyway, here's what the stuff looks like:

Basically the building is 3 -4 story building, kind of like a council office with a marble floor in it's main foyer, and a statue in that foyer. Most of the bottom floor will be intact, but will also have some rubble from the wreckage of explosions and stuff. the second floors will have holes in it, and not a lot other than a few office desks, filing cabinets and some sandbags thrown up as barricades.
Third floor will have a few knocked over filing cabinets with papers everywhere and a rotting corpse of some kind up there.
I'll be heaps happy if i can find some miniature cupboards :D
Digits - January 26, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
You know, THAT is a fantastic idea! Very simple but I can see all sorts of possibilities for it! Nice find mate.
Tony88 - January 27, 2008 07:26 AM (GMT)
Cheers man.
Basically i'll put it to an MDF board and build the building around it, paint cracks and have the odd piece of rubble with marble on it.
