Title: interior guard precinct/barracks
Description: things to do with the Wh fortress

Old Guard - December 16, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
I hinted at this before and have today purchased the main component for the house of Guard Christmas project. I will be building a Cadian Interior Guard Precinct/barracks (and with the bits left over a Bretonnian castle with the help of the kids)

The Idea itself came from seing this in the Bretonnian collectors guide

and having re-read the Eisenhorn trilogy (yet again) I built up a picture of the building in my minds eye. This will form part of a larger project involving the creation of an Interior guard/inquisitor force based around Inquisitor general Neve who will be created from the Mordheim figure Marianna Chevaux (vampire), lots of Kars kin and interior guard troopers including a veteran squad (SWAT team). I have already posted a picture of the inquisitors 'borrowed' rhino.

the building itself will look roughly like this

and will be made up of fortress bits, necromunda panels and COD panels. there will be a landing pad (on the left) and below it an access to the underground vehicle bay (as described in one of the Shira Calpurnia books...must reread that one it was quite enjoyable)

so there we have it ...as progress occurs over the festive period I will post updates and for anyone concerned about hill fortress 3, fear not this has not been abandonned more updates soon. I finish work mid week for all intents and purposes (supposed to be working from home for the last couple of days.....mmmmm!) and so between preparing food for the big day, emptying my crate of Corona (must get some more limes) I will be working on this lot.

later good folk

the plan in itself seems awesome, but have you finished the cadian hill fortress? if it turns out half aswell as that this will be brilliant

Old Guard - December 16, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
The fortress is not quite finished just more vegetation and a bit of paintwork in the trenches. i am hoping to finish that and start tis simultaneously Ie work on one while bits of the other are drying.

I need to be a bit wary of not going overboard on the detail on the precinct! I am not planning on doing interiors but I do hate looking through the window of 'empty' buildings!!!!!!!!!!

3vilX - December 16, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
this is gonna be epic, can't wait to see some progress.

I do hate looking through the window of 'empty' buildings!!!!!!!!!!

i know what your mean, my leviathan has no interior,it has plasticard behind detail so to get round this im just going to paint stained glass on the plasticard lol

Digits - December 16, 2007 07:42 PM (GMT)
Fantastic concept! If this turns out half as good as the fortress trench, it will be awsome!

Old Guard - December 16, 2007 08:05 PM (GMT)
Thank you all, I will try my best, I am quite enthusiastic about this and am hoping that it turns out well.

TheGrizz - December 16, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
Yay! More awesomness from Old Guard!

Question though, will this Precinct have, especially if it's on a large board, a perimeter wall, watchtowers, bunkers?

Old Guard - December 23, 2007 09:20 AM (GMT)
And so it begins... Ok guys here are the first 2 pictures of the precinctshoing the front snf right side which includes the rhino access (the idea is that the hangar is underground) the white I beam will provide a running track for a roller shutter type door.

jasevx - December 23, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
good start, surprisingly it blends rather well

Old Guard - December 23, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
Yeah I find that the 2 do go well together, I've gathered a load of photoes of crosover buildings including the wall sections being heightned to create city walls looking down on a slum area made from a mix of necro, COD and the new WH buildings and it all works. I've been mixing stuff in with COD ever since it came out as I find it too ornate (I wish they had released the prototype sprue) and since all my stuff is Cadian based I feel it needs big rough stone in it all such as what I did here user posted image (yesif it looks familiar the building concept was from Rictus I believe, not sure if he's done anything more to his though)

Grizz, sorry chap I didnt answer your question, bloody rude of me, well yes and no. I am not planning fences or anything like that, I feel the precinct should feel part of the city, but there probably will be some mini bunkers probably at the corners on the front. some of the plan will undoubtidely change as it goes along. My plans are always rough and just tend to settle into what I feel looks right.

Old Guard, this is awesome, again. I am eagerly awaiting your next updates.

I have to keep in mind the mixing kits technique, seems like it does wonders.

3vilX - December 23, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)
that works really well together. can't wait to see that painted.

Old Guard - December 23, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
Last one for tonight, another quick mock up that gives a better feel for what I'm hoping for as a finished product. the paper octagon will be the landing pad position. this will be a bit trickier than i first thought as there is quite a bit of cutting at some quite awkward angles to be done. the door on the tower will be built around to form a mini air traffic control for the pad (need and Arvus or an arbites pattern speeder (the scirocco from the french GW site should do the trick) more work!)

As ever thanks for the comments guys. Tomorrow may be a bit quieter on the construction front since I have much to do in the 'real' world prepping for the big day, however boxing day is a different kettle of fish since I will need something to do while watching my 'horrible' new DVD's on the only screen available. The PC in the study!!

Later Guys! .... wheres that bloody mexican gone with my beer?

RRRRRAAAAAOOOOUUUUUULLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lord Commander Eidolon - December 24, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
very very awesome

styx - December 24, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
Very nice!

On the landing pad, I would fill them in with putty and shape them into bricks or put gun mounts or some type of ariel or perhaps support struts and make the pad slightly larger....

TheGrizz - December 24, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
Not to worry Old Guard, my patience is limitless while waiting for answers :P

Very nice bunker that you seem to be placing in the corner I have to admit.

If I may, a suggestion. Perhaps a statue of some sort. Some sort of 'justice' figure, like you can see in current day courts, with scales and books, but obviously 'Imperium-ified'. If you get what I mean.

Old Guard - December 24, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
there will be support struts for the pad with the possibility of mesh/netting to catch the odd disorientated pilot who may step off the edge.

statue! hmmm like the idea of that possibly some inquisito scale job out the front (pricey but possibly really good looking)..... to be considered

Deserter - December 24, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
The Arbite looking guy sculpted by Steve Buddle would work a treat mate! I had a skull ornament thing that I wanted to use in cityfight terrain, was basically a skull with the wig that judges wear. Would have worked pretty well for something like this :)

Looking great so far!

Old Guard - December 26, 2007 11:07 AM (GMT)
this is the guy you mean...right?

bringerofdecay - December 26, 2007 12:00 PM (GMT)
looks awesome so far mate :) can't wait to see it finished

Deserter - December 28, 2007 01:43 AM (GMT)
Yeh thats the guy I meant :)

Either of those would look awesome mate!

3vilX - December 28, 2007 02:19 AM (GMT)
yeah, those would make awesome statues for it.

Severian - December 28, 2007 05:49 AM (GMT)
Ahh! More terrain goodness, I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished. I'm definitely keeping track of this topic.

Easy E - December 31, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
That's one imposing piece of terrain.

Old Guard - December 31, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
It is kinda bigger than i first thought but still this is going to be fun, there are a few issues to work out (more cutting needed than I had thought ) but still i f i get this right it should look the bis.

thanks for the comments

later

Chips - January 1, 2008 05:04 AM (GMT)
That's a great looking piece of scenery with a lot of room for additions. Maybe some wall mounted and automatic guns would make it look better and more modern?

Digits - March 29, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
That guy would look great! You could do him like I just did Eisenhorn! The trick is finding the right base.

Anyway, c'mon old fella, there has to be a progress report on this wonderful building in the offing.

Old Guard - March 29, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
mmm <_< I havent quite finished the hill fortress yet. this has stalled a little, not being abandoned but i need to find my muse (pretentious old [foolish person]). main problem is the size and where to put during the build. It will be done though, i'm just not going to set a time to it. That statue of yours Digits was sound! well impressed.

(oh yeah I still need to scan that Vitrian for you)

bram kuijpers - March 29, 2008 11:14 PM (GMT)
bloody hell old guard... thats a amazing piece of terain, ever thought of making some money out of it?
