Title: I Need To Learn Japanese!
Description: Please post helpful suggestions.

Miroku - January 22, 2004 12:51 AM (GMT)
Ok, I am madly in love with this girl in Japan and am going to move to Japan to be with her. Does anybody have any helpful advice on how I can teach myself the language? I'm planning on going in about 5 months so I know I won't learn TOO much. As far as I can tell we are engaged and I gave her my word that I would go to her. And by the way, she looks and acts like Sango, and as far as I am concerned, IS Sango!

Grab yourself and japanese dictionary and read read read read.

Memorizing single words is more effective for memorization that long strings of grammar.

remember: repitition is the key to learning repitition is the key to learning repitition is the key to learning repitition is the key to learning.

Keep that up, every day for 5 months, and you'll be suprised how fast you'll pick it up.

Watch anime in Japanese. I've actually picked up a lotta phrases by watching downloaded Inu and Shaman King eps.

I'm no expert but once you learn words try to use them as much as possible in reg. convo's and if people look at you funny tell them your learning a language and its rubbing off on you alot and translate for them or sumn.

Aw, thank you so much. I really appreciate it :) ... I really need to learn how to speak all of it... but I thank you for your help.

Miroku - January 30, 2004 06:54 AM (GMT)
Ok, first I'm going to need to know how to say I, you, he, she, it, you (plural/formal) we, and they. Those are the first things I learned when I took french and German so I think those should be the first things I learn.

~Sango~ - January 30, 2004 06:54 AM (GMT)

Sjow - February 21, 2004 07:16 PM (GMT)
anime might be helpful but don't rely on the subs too much..fansubbing is inaccurate at times :\.

like translating arigatou to arigato
ahou to aho
and more stuff i won't write down

i heard something about tapes and such.."learn japanese in <?> weeks" maybe you should buy one of those..and some books etc.
or try to find a job in a japanese restaurant,to become familiar with their customs, and learn the language from a real japanese person.while you're at it stuff yourself too.

Miroku - February 21, 2004 09:06 PM (GMT)
I'll learn it from my girl when she gets back. She is an actual Japanese person.

Aku - February 23, 2004 06:47 PM (GMT)
That's an incredibly honorable pursuit. I wish you the best Miroku.

Sango - March 22, 2004 12:43 AM (GMT)
