iceman - June 16, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
lets try to analyse,

Rizal was martyred... by the Spaniards...

Bonifacio was murdered by fellow filipinos... afaik.

But for me, the life of Rizal is worth emulating, his martyrdom triggered much of the revolution. Maybe that is the reason why he is the national hero. His calmness and courage to face his impending death is one of a kind.

Bonifacio should be emulated for his bravery, but not courage. Si Supremo ay si supremo.

imho, the philippines is not yet ready for independence...

its sad but its true...

bolitski - June 16, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
Rizal is pro spanish...he never embraced the revolution...even the heroes on his book is a meztizo....Rizal was never against spain...he was against the catholic church...

Rostan - June 17, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
who made rizal "our" national hero?.... why?.... *ben wallace

ice,

the 7100 islands that the philippines is most proud of proves to be the philippines waterloo.

We will never be a cohesive unit.

During the spanish era, we are the epitome of the divide and conquer mentality..

When the cavitenos fought the spaniards, the spaniards had asked the batanguenos to battle the revolutionaries, and when its the batanguenos turn to fought the spaniards, its the cavitenos who aided the spaniards this time.

its no wonder that a bunch of spanish people have ruled us for three centuries...

history is repeating itself in modern history....

a few decades ago a bunch of politicians had fought to kick the US govt out of the country...now a few of them are fighting to bring them back...

iceman - June 17, 2008 07:33 AM (GMT)
i agree and strongly agree...

if only the others were the same with us tupvians in terms of camaraderie, where everybody is considered a brother or a sister... i may revert my way of thinking...

Rostan - June 17, 2008 07:35 AM (GMT)
so who made rizal our national hero? :P

bolitski - June 17, 2008 08:07 AM (GMT)
i tried to google the system..this is the best i can get

The Americans right after they occupied your country.

They wanted Filipinos to have a national hero who did not advocate revolution against colonizers so they chose Rizal for you instead of Andres Bonifacio.

Your own government has phased out coins which contain the image of Bonifacio to prevent Filipinos from knowing him and what he advocated

so it justifies that rizal DID NOT had any advocacy on revolution against colonizers instead he somewhat agree and sides with colonizers!...

if you say that Rizal is not....ngaa... *console

Jerim - June 20, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
Rizal is very much qualified. He faced death without retracting his statements of attacks sa spanish government.

Isug! :)

Si Rizal piso lang. Si Andres, lima ka piso gid.

Linkstatic - July 4, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)

kay Lapu-Lapu ko ya... hehehehe

Lapu-Lapu is one of the first to fight the then impending Spanish colonization and successfully fought off the invaders....

:worthy: :worthy:

Pero kung on on topic... kay Rizal ko ah. Kung wala napatay si Rizal by firing squad, wala nag gain momentum ang revolution.

raymie_v - July 7, 2008 02:25 AM (GMT)
Correct! Kon wala mapatay si Rizal, subong patay na man sya gyapon. hehehe. :)
