Hi Everyone,
My Pyr is just an itty-bitty, not even old enough to come home yet, but I am curious about Hip Dysplasia in Pyr's.
My 2 year old Golden's parents hips were certified and I was told I would have no problems. I tend to not believe blindly, so I put my sweet pup on a Glucosamine & Chondroitin& MSM supplement very early on. I coupled this with the usual practices for any large breed pup (no too rough playing, supervising and usually carrying up/down stairs, no extensive running & walking, Always supervising play with other dogs/children, etc.) making the best effort to have a healthy companion. He is in Excellent condition and I still give him his supplements daily. I am close friends with the owner of his brother and she took all of the same precautions with her pup except for the G,C, & MSM. Her 2 year old pup was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia last month :( . I know that she is every inch as dedicated to Champ as I am to my Drake, but her Vet advised against the "unecessary use of supplements", and so she did not. I BELIEVE in this stuff...strongly.
Here is my ?. I know that Fiona has mentioned the Supplement and I know that Akira was diagnosed with the disease, how many others? My main concern is that I know how Slow their metabolisms are and am curious of when it should be started and at what dose????? Can it build up in their system and cause toxicity conditions? Or do you dose by weight as any other dog??? My Pyr boys parents are certified as well, and he should be fine, but why take chances???? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm already buying it for one 100 lb pooch, whats another? LOL! :D Thank you all!
