My pyr is about 8 and very recently he has become much more demanding. He has always been very vocal and what he wants is crystal clear, but lately he just seems a bit more impatient...everything is kinda urgent with him - water, food, outdoors, walks and then he has even begun to request things like walks when it is not walk time and he is demanding to be pet and won't back off with the usual "go away fred". I know that sounds mean, but he hears "not now" and later is better.
My husband and I are beginning to think that his age may have something to do with the change in behavior.
It is not a huge change, he is not misbehaving or being rude, he just wants what he wants. I know...he is even more relentless than he was before.
You guys must surely know what I mean. He is gentle, loving, perfect pet...but if his water bowl gets empty or the food is not there yet or we aren't in a petting mood - he is relentless. He can smell treats in grocery bags and wants em ALL when we walk in the door, just stuff like that.
He is so smart, trying to pretend that you don't know what he wants is a joke
:P He knows we know. Right now I am sitting here laughing and HE KNOWS it is about him and now he is here for some lovin ;) no kidding.
thanks
I would probably take Fred for a thorough vet check. Yes, our pyrs are getting older, but sudden behaviour changes often indicate a medical problem!
Troy is not much different really now at 8 other than being generally more laid-back about things really. He is happy to let the younger dogs play and go mad, though he still joins in at times.

Thanks..those were my thoughts exactly. Am taking him in next week.
Fred has been the only dog in our house until recently and he is almost indifferent to the pitbull we have. He doesn't dislike her, but I think Fred thinks he is the man of the house...litterally speaking.
But, yeah hubby and I were thinking of taking him in to the vet just because.
I spent about 3 hours working on his coat and loving on him yesterday and went over every inch of him and found nothing unusual, but still made an appointment.
thanks again
