Hello again :D

Just a few questions to see how some of you guys overcame some training obsticals.

One thing I've noticed with Neville is he can get things other dogs can't lol..today my wife came in with a loaf of bread..left it on the table while she put the kettle on..turned around and it was gone :o

Neville had crept up like a cat burgler and swiped the whole loaf! she saw him making off down the hall with it! <_< :ph43r:

he can also reach other things like the biscuit tin, the bin, the dining table..and loads of other things other dogs wouldnt be able to get.

He'll drop what ever he has as soon as you catch up with him lol but by then its too late, most things are chewed up or dripping with drool.
He'll do this right after his dinner too so its not that he's hungry.

If something gets dropped he's there like a rocket hoovering up, and just ignors you calling him.

House training has gone really well but night times a problem as if I put paper down he likes to shred it..then poo's elsewhere. If the doors open he'll go out but obviously if we're in bed its closed and he cant. Surly you guys had to go through the house training issues..and had the same prob with your dogs choosing not to listen (selective hearing) unless theres something in it for them?

Not major problems but if anyone can give me any tips on methods that have worked I'd be greatfull to give em a try.
I dont want him pinching food from people, or stealing from the bin or kitchen sides..so gues thats the main issue.
cheers Rob
ps he's fed at 9am then again at 13:30pm then his tea at about 17.00-17:30 when we have ours.

Pinching food: no chance of them not getting into the bin... we ended up putting the bin outside the kitchen so they couldn't get into it (we have two doors to the garden with a small area between them). These days they don't actually go into the bin anymore when the doors are open (as they are in the summer), but that took a loooong time for them to stop! We also have a metal pedal bin that is much more difficult to get into than your average kitchen bin.

If you catch him with something he shouldn't have, try not to race after him (unless it is something dangerous or valuable), but encourage him to come back to you with it and exchange it for a treat. That way at least you can gain control once you noticed what they have done.

Also, manage the problem by putting everything he can't have out of reach and into cupboards! Much easier that keep getting annoyed or having to run after the pup. :)

House training: just keep at it. Reward with praise and a treat when he does it outdoors and ignore and clean if he does it indoors. At night, I would suggest that you get up once half way through to let him out. That seems to work best.

Training: well yes, they do nothing unless there is something in it for them... we have a pyrenees like that - and our saluki crosses are even worse in that respect... Selective deafness - it's their middle name.
Make the rewards as good as possible e.g. nice treats like sausage, cheese, cooked chicken etc.

I think you are just experiencing a typical pyrenees puppy... with a typical pyrenees character. :D
