Title: Puppy feeding
Description: Complete dog feeds

Hi

We are about to get our first Pyrenean puppy. We plan to feed him on a complete dry dog food. Looking around at all the feeds available we have settled on Royal Canin Giant Puppy. They seemed to provide the most comprehensive information (Elena - my wife used to be a vet nurse).

Does anyone have any experience with this food or any information that would be helpful?

Hiya , for the first wee while your poopie will need to stay on the 4 meals a day that the breeder has had him on 2 milk and 2 biscuits /meat or complete meals . Obviously if yu are not happy with the complete the pup has been getting you can change it over but remember to do it gradually so the pup gets used to the new food :D

Giant breed puppy foods tend to be very high in protien and are really not a great idea as high protien can make these pups grow too quickly , which is not good for their bones joints etc in later life .

I changed Akira from puppy to adult food at 6 months for the same reasons puppy food on the whole tends to be very high in protien and i personally did not want Akira growing too fast , she grew quick enough without any added boosters

I did feed Akira a more natural diet , meat veggies cottage cheese yoghurt , rice pasta etc with some complete mixed in but i cannot for the life of me remember what puppy food i had her on , i will have a nosey through some of my old posts and see if i can find out more info

Like Fiona said : I wouldnt recomend to use Giant Puppy food eather! If you want to feed your dog kibble the best way is to look for a all natural kibble and feed your pup with an adult food. Too much protein can lead to serious ligment problems and can cause limping in puppy age (growing pains).

I feed my dogs mostly on raw and home coocked food but I also give kibble. Some kibble brands can make your dog to have allergenic reaction - I have had a personal experience with this problem with my dogs.
