Title: Is Troy making progress or just getting older?

Troy has a problem with other dogs, always has had since we adopted him five years ago. However, with very controlled socialisation and training, he improved greatly and got to the point where he could walk past another dog on the lead without shouting his head off two fields away...

But if dogs came up to him, particularly bouncy ones, he would still react once they were near and go for them.

However, last Friday we were out and about with the dogs, hubby was a distance away with Troy. I saw a GSD approach Troy at high speed, and I thought, that was it... But no, Troy sniffed the other dog's nose, no lunging, no barking, nothing...

Wow! This is the first time ever that I can remember that Troy greeted another dog nicely, even with a friendly tail wag! Hopefully the work I have put in is finally working, or maybe he is just getting older and wiser (he is 7 1/2 now)... But who cares, the important thing is the result! And I am happy with that.

A client of mine with her dog aggressive doberman bitch (which we have been working with for almost a year now) and me and Troy went for a walk together on Saturday. We both thought we'd have problems with the dogs, but we got a massive surprise. Neither of them barked or even took notice of the other one when we got the dogs out of our cars. We then went onto the field, as it went so well, we let the doberman off the lead (Troy stayed on) and it was fab. Not a grumble, not even a funny look. They both walked, sometimes in front of each other, sometimes next to each other... Next time perhaps we'll try Troy off lead too! It was great.
