Title: Concerned about daz
Description: hair loss under eye

alanelf - September 29, 2006 11:55 AM (GMT)
Hi everyone im a bit concerned about Daz this may all be nothing and im being stupid.I happened to notice Daz was scratching his face the other day and i checked him for the usual critters to find nothing as he was treated with frontline 2 weeks ago.I did notice that the hair under his eye was a bit thin (not bold) i can see the pink skin underneath although its not red or soar or cut etc.I have enclosed a picture so you can see what im saying the eyes themself seem fine and there are no wet patches on the face he is not constantly scratching them and it doesnt seem to bother him or irritate him i have since had his claws clipped as they were a bit sharp when he scratched. It has not worsened in past couple of days and he is still a very happy chap.Is there something with pyreneans that can do this or is it just he scratched it with sharp claws? If it were mites wouldnt he keep scratching and scratching as he certainly isnt doing that any help would be good

There is many possible reasons for skin/coat problems. Perhaps it is just natural. Perhaps it is a food intolerance. Perhaps it is a parasite...

I would suggest to take him to the vet if you are concerned. It is not something that is common in Pyreneans as such...

Sorry i didnt reply last night when i came back from the vets i have been a bit busy with decorating and had the broadband unplugged for the evening (it was that or the wife would paint the modem (joke)) :D .It was good news at the vets which meant i was the problem not Daz   . Vet did a thourough check on Daz to put my mind at rest. The hair loss was due to Daz scratching himself and nothing more than that and said the hair was growing back and to keep his nails clipped.Other than that he got a clean bill of health and more cuddles good news also was we went to the puppy party today and will update my other topic in training. So i guess i should stop panicking and enjoy him being a puppy.

Hi Everyone
Just to update on my last the hair around Daz`s eye seems to have grown back lovely and he isnt scratching there anymore and is looking good.We had a scary moment during last week though as we have laminate flooring and Daz not being house trained as of yet(cant wait) :D we decided to use a brand name disinfectant rather than the really cheap one we usually buy.We washed the floor after tea last wednesday and sat down to watch the usual soaps a couple of hours later daz came in and seemed to be in a panic he lied down and started biting his pads on his paws and scratching his ear he was crying whilst biting his paws and was obviously discomforted by something. His pink pads looked more reddish we took him to the bath and bathed his feet and wiped his ear down which had also been incontact with the floor (and mopped floors with fairy liquid to remove disinfectant) he seemed fine after this.I guess he has sensitive paws but guess that the Brand name is far to strong even though it was diluted more than directed and have gone back to the cheap brand.

Hi Alan,

dont' know about the paws bu the others wil probably tell you but while house training its best to by special bleach free cleaner. You get normally get it from pet shops or vets. This is because the bleach reacts with the wee and although humans can't smell it to a dog it makes it smell more of urine and more liely a place to pee again.

JD took about 17-19 weeks before she was fully house trained.

Another good thing to use when cleaning up little accidents is Zaflora disinfectant , for some strange reason Akira never wee'd in the same place twice when i used it :D
