Title: Angela Stockdale Workshop
Description: 26th & 27th August, Nottingham
spottycharlie - July 27, 2006 03:43 PM (GMT)
I hope I'm posting this in the correct place, I couldn't find an events place to put it.
Angela Stockdale will be holding a workshop weekend in Farndon, Nottingham on the 26th & 27th August.
10a.m - 4p.m both days.
The cost will be £40 per day for spectators.
The cost for handlers will be £120 for both days.
This will include refreshments and lunch on both days.
The workshop will be an introduction to Angelas methods. They involve positive training techniques, using clicker training, shaping behaviour, stooge dogs and reading dog body language to help solve behaviour problems, especially aggression cases.
Two dogs will be assessed on the first day and four on the second using Angelas stooge dogs.
There are no kennel facilities at the venue so dogs will have to be kept in owners cars, there will obviously be plenty of breaks to allow the dogs exercise.
There are limited spaces for handlers so it will be on a first come first served basis.
For more information about Angela and how she works please take a look at her website
http://www.dog-partnership.co.uk/index.htmThe weekend is suitable for pet owners wanting to learn more about their dogs behaviour to professionals who work with dogs.
All bookings are to come through me, Please e-mail me your address and I will post out a booking form.

Not suprised with her prices - £40 to go and watch - who does she think she is Barbara Woodhouse :D .
Never known a dog training event be canclled because no ones come to watch before.!!!
Sorry, I am being very negative about this event but it just seems a bit dodgy.
More of a money making exercise. May be it was the bit about keeping the dogs in the cars annoyed.

You are being extremely negative. How many workshops have you attended for free?
You can gain as much by observing as you can by getting your dog assessed.

that's told me then.

I am sorry, but I have to agree. Watching Angela Stockdale working with the dogs is fantastic. I have been waiting for her coming a bit closer again to see her again. You can learn so much by just watching the dogs' body language at her events.

Thankyou Vera,
Its not a money making exercise but yes of course there is money involved, Angelas fees for a start, she can't travel up to Nottingham from somerset and stay in a b&b for 3 nights, work for two days for nothing and also the venue has to be rented which isn't cheap.
I am not going to be making any money out of this but will be donating any excess money to a dog rescue centre if there is any but should imagine I will be left out of pocket due to advertising, travel etc.

For those who are going or thinking of going there is a travelodge Grantham A1 (postcode NG32 2AB) which is 17.5 miles a way from the venue and has rooms for £26.00 per night. Of course if you're taking your dog you pay an extra £10

Sorry - its still the bit about leaving dogs in cars that irritates me. Not so bad this time of year - although it still hit the eighties in some parts of England this month.
I just can't see how someone who works with dogs can advocate leaving them in cars.
Not just the heat - if I left JD in the car (little miss separation anxiety sufferer) I dont think I'd have a car to come back to. Just see www.doglost.co.uk to see how may dogs are stolen from cars each year.
I live near Nottingham (15 min drive) - any chance of dogless freeby :) :) :)
(You don't have to answer that.)

If people are concerned about leaving their dogs in cars they can stay with them in the car, I don't know they layout of the venue but it may be possible to take dogs in.
Of course only 6 dogs are to be assessed so spectators don't have to bring dogs with them.
I have two dogs but will only be bringing one with me as he may be seeing Angela, my boyfriend who is coming with me is prepared to stay with him in the car if necessary.
No sorry, no freebies, I will be putting my hand in my pocket like everyone else.

I would quite like to see Angela at work as i have heard a fair bit about her methods , but i am just too far away , if she ever comes up to Scotland i would love to go and see what she makes of Storm :D
Even if i took him i have to admit i wouldnt be keen to leave him i the car but if i had to in between sessions then i would , but of course i would have Mel with me so we could supervise and make sure he had plenty of fresh air, water and toilet breaks :D It does seem to be normal practise at these type of workshops , i would only take him if he was going to be seen or i would leave him at home

When I went to see her, we talked about Troy and his problems. However, we decided for two reasons not to use her methods (stooge dogs) with him:
1. He would never be off lead anyway in public, so doesn't need to mingle with other dogs. The stooge dog sessions could have set him back with his on-lead training re his aggression.
2. He would have been powerful for even her biggest stooge dogs (Malamute and GSD), even muzzled a pyrenees would have no problem flattening another dog!
