Title: Please keep Akira inyour thoughts today
Pyreelover - July 10, 2006 08:18 AM (GMT)
I have just dropped Akira off at the vets , no mystery illnesses so far , i just hope they dont call to say she is coming into season so cant be spayed today i dont think my nerves could stand yet another build up to the op and then Akira not getting it , the vet nurse was telling me Jo has notes all over the place that Akira has to have a special anesthetic as she was fine with it last time and my girlie is first into the theatre so hopefully i wont have to wait to long to hear that everything has gone fine , i am a bit of a wreck this morning so i might have to find loads to keep me busy , that wont take me long in here thats for sure or i might just take Storm out for a nice walk then sit and drink coffee all morning

I know how you feel! Thinking of you and Akira! :)

Thanks Vera :D
I have just spoken to the nurse and Akira is fine her op went very well and she is coming round nicely , thankfully there was no sign of her about to come into season so at last madam is done :D
I have to pick her up about 4.30 to give her a chance to come round properly and let her rest up this afternoon , i am just so relieved that its over Akira is finally done and everything went well for her
I have never had a girlie before and was panic stricken about this op especially with the added risks involved with the anesthetics and Pyr's i am just soooo relieved its over and the extra money for the special anesthetic was so worth it

Fab! So glad it all went well! Don't forget to give her arnica to help recover.
Could you also perhaps do me a favour? Could you ask your vet what anaesthetics she used? Troy is limping again and it looks like he might have to have his shoulder x-rayed some time soon after all. He is not good with anaesthetics, so perhaps it would help if I knew what your vet used for Akira!
Vera :)

No problem Vera i will do i better write it down for you as i have asked her a few times and always forget
When Akira was xrayed last time Jo used this same anesthetic and Akira came round really quickly and was really really well after it :D I know today she was under for longer with her op but the nurse said she is coming round fine again obviously a wee bit sleepy but thats normal as i have all ready said i am not bothered that this anesthetic costs more than the normal one as long as my wee girl can tolerate it i wouldnt care how much it costs so i will find our for you later on today and hopefully it might work as well for Troy :D
I am not sure how much arnica to use Vera any ideas?

Thanks, Fiona.
Arnica: a couple of tablets/pills three times a day should do the trick.

Thanks Vera i will start her on that tonight :D
The anesthetic Jo uses with Akira is called Rapinovet / Propofol .
I have just been to pick her up and she was delighted to see me and surprisingly bright and happy , she is now lying settled in her crate in peace , we put Storm out in the garden until we brought Akira in and he has just came in had a wee sniff and a waggy tail at her through the crate and she has not even moved so she must be tired out poor wee girl

Poor Akira must be really tired she has not stirred since i got her home , probably a good thing as i have the feeling when she starts feeling better she will not like being confined to her crate so she is not tempted to try jumping all over Storm , i can see the next couple of weeks being a bit of a nightmare trying to keep madam quiet to give her time to heal properly ;)
And to think i moaned that i could not get her out of her crate not that long ago

Akira had a settled night she hardly moved at all , she had a wee bit of food but not a lot about 8ish out for a wee then back into her crate and slept until she went out again about midnight for another toilet break . I gave her some Arnica , she is having a wee whimper to herself this morning so i am going to give her some Metacalm and more Arnica with her breakfast , i just hope she wil have a quiet day as it is quite a big op she has had and i know the minute she starts to feel better it will be hard work keeping her quiet :(

I am glad that she is doing ok, although it is expected that she is tired and feeling a bit uncomfortable. I hope she picks up soon (although not too much... :D ).

Big licks coming from Izzy

Akira is behaving very well and seems to like being in her crate at the moment , she is going out for the toilet but no walks or any exercise at all , she seems to be enjoying the peace her crate gives her and when she goes out to the toilet she heads straight back into it and lies down quite happily , i am under no illusions that when she starts to feel better this will change but i have to say i am quite happy at the moment thats shes resting so well , she is having her Arnica 3 times a day and small meals at the moment she was a wee bit sick this morning, but that could just be the after effects of the anesthetic , she is quite happy in herself and bright enough i think she is just wondering whats happened to her .
She is off for a check up at the vets tomorrow but i think she is doing really well at the moment , knowing Akira mind you just because i have said that tomorrow will be when she decides she has had enough of her crate and she will want to play with Storm again , which i cant let her do until she is fully healed just in case

The vet is really pleased with Akira as she has not been licking her stitches and has been very good and resting well , so she is now allowed to go for very short walks so we went for a wee wander around the park before we came home form the vets and when we came in Akira went straight into her crate and is lying down sleeping again for now :D
She is going back next thursday to get her stitches out
Time to take Storm out now for his walk before i come back and tackle some much needed housework :(
