Title: Akira is ill again
Pyreelover - June 16, 2006 07:56 AM (GMT)
Please spare some healing thoughts for my wee girl again , over the last couple of days she has not been herself at all , last friday i took her to the vets for her pre op check and she is booked in to get speyed on monday but , she has been lathargic again and seems to be a we bit sore , so i took her to the vet again yesterday and am waiting for her blood results this morning . When she was weighed last friday she had lost nearly 5 KG's in weight and when she was weighed yesterday she has lost nearly nearly another KG which seems to be a lot to lose in a week :( She has been a bit picky again with her food but not completely off it so i am obviously very worried about the rapid weight loss especially as she is on the lean side anyway , obviously if she is not feeling well i will not be having her put under anesthetic , i am just hoping they can find out from her bloods if she has picked up some kind of infection or what ever is wrong with her can be easily sorted out , her temp was up at 104 yesterday

Oh, Fiona, I hope so much it is something simple!
Troy was a bit stressy (panting a lot) and picky with his food for a couple of weeks. We tried to figure out what it was, but couldn't work it out - until he started holding his head to one side and his ears got all mucky. He must have had the ear infection for a while without any outward signs. He has had ear drops for about a months and is back to normal now (no panting, eating ok).
Let us know the results of Akira's tests.

Thanks Vera i am just off the phone with the vets apparently Akiras glucose levels are a bit low and this can lead to her having fits so she has to go into the vets for some more tests this afternoon i did not understand half of what the vet told me so i have changed Akira's Appointment so she can see Jo , they are talking about xrays on her heart and stomach and more advanced blood tests , Lisa mentioned Pancriatic tumours so you can imagine my mind is working over time and worrying myself sick again , she is talking about keeping Akira in over the weekend to run these tests and give her some more pain killers fluids etc so of course now i have the added worry of her going under anesthetic again :(

Oh no, that doesn't sound too positive, does it. But hopefully it is something treatable! Let us know when you have talked to Jo what they think it is!
How is Akira in herself?

Akira is not going in over the weekend , apparently her glucose levels are not at a dangerous low yet , Jo does not want to put her under anesthetic while she is not well so she has given her some metacalm for now in case she is in pain , the weight loss is a worry but Jo is going to see her again on tuesday and see how she is then , Akira being Akira of course perked up a bit when she went to see Jo today but is not really herself and since we came home has just been lying around looking sorry for herself , so i am really no further forward , funnily enough she does not seem to be in pain at her back end as she let Jo manipulate her legs and hips with no problems today , the last time Jo tried that Akira went nuts today she took it well and stood still until Jo touched her back , then she jumped a bit , she also had a wee jump when Jo felt her stomach but Jo could'nt find anything so i suppose it is just a waiting game to see how she is over the weekend but if she seems worse she will be straight back to see Jo .
Jo could not give me any idea what she thought was wrong without running further tests but has cancelled her spey for monday so i will just have to see what happens over the weekend and discuss the tests further with Jo on tuesday i always think its the not knowing thats the worst part when one of our babies is ill :( so please keep her in your thoughts this weekend

:o I cant believe i did not update this thread , sorry madam is back to her usual self and i am sure she knew she was suppose to go in to get "done" again any time she is booked in she seems to take ill so we decided not to let her hear further conversations about the S word ;)
I have booked her in again for monday so fingers crossed it will go ahead this time before the little madam decides to come into season again , when i made the appointment i covered Storms ears so he wouldnt tell Akira what was going on    and at yet another pre op appointment with Jo we did everything but mention what we were actually there for so fingers crossed for monday :D

That does make all the difference being able to fully trust your vet , Jo is the only one i would trust with it though as she really listens when i explain things to her , the other vets at the practise have the all large dogs can have problems with anesthetics speech down to a fine art but when i explained to Jo she went off did some research read the document i got from the PMDC about Pyr's and anesthetics and came back and explained exactly what she would use from the pre med to the actual anesthetic , i dont care that it is more expensive than the usual one i know Akira tolerated it the first time she was put under and of couse that wont stop me worrying myself sick about it tomorrow but at least i have faith that Jo does know what she is doing and will take the best possible care of my baby girl :D
Great to see you back Sharon :D , we need updated pics :D
Thanks Vera i have everything crossed madam is fine tomorrow and everything goes smoothly for her :D Storm has been a grumpy sod with her the last couple of days so i am really hoping that does not mean shes coming into season again or i dont know what i will do with her , i know Jo will check her out in the morning but with Akira's track record nothing would surprise me at all to be honest ;)
