I love "its me or the dog", it all looks so easy, if only.
Havent see the other one - will look out for it.
Did you watch Crufts on thursday night. The judges obviously got it wong, how could they possibly not vote for the pyries as being best in goup
;) ;) ;)
I watched dog borstal for the first time last night and i have to say i was really disappointed that we hardly got to see any training with the dogs :(
Jo public will watch programs like this and think "oh lets try the bottle " for all kinds of problems on all kinds of dogs , my worry there is what they could do to their dogs that all ready have problems , a slightly nervous dog could become a nervous wreck for example , anyone that knows anything about training knows that timing is so important but a lot of people dont and thats very scary . Some dogs might respond to the bottle getting shaken at them and a loud leave or no but it could have disasterous results as well with the wrong dog , i can just imagine me trying that with Storm to teach him the "leave" command , if he has something he will not give up his adrenalin is up me shaking a bottle at him and shouting "leave " would wind him up and i think he would probably bite me for my efforts ;)
It is such a shame for the trainers that the program has been edited to within an inch of its life and we did not get to see what other methods were used at all and the time and effort that actually goes in to any form of training . The dogs were there for a week and we say a few minutes footage ? That just does not seem right , i know it has been said that this program was entertainment but sadly some people will think its a quick fix to problems without knowing enough about their dog or the problems .
I felt so sorry for the choccy lab and to be honest i was swearing at the silly owner while she was bitching about Mick's attitude to her and the way he was speaking to her , i dont think she realized he was trying to tell her things for the good of her dog , feeding her dog with sweets and buying him a teddy to hump? The poor dog was overweight and badly in need of some training , and what a lot of people dont seem to realize is that a good trainer trains the owners as well as the dogs nothing is ever a quick fix and takes time a lot of effort and the patience of a saint .
I wonder how many behaviourists and trainers will get frantic phone calls from people who have tried things they have seen on the program and been bitten for getting it wrong?
The terriers scared me as well to be honest i think thats a time bomb waiting to go off , the headcollar and long lead was quite scarey too the poor dogs neck :(
Its such a shame that we did not see more actual training
