Hi, I introduced myself the other day. Noah our 12 week old pup is doing great so far. We have been having him sleep in the house and during the day he is out with us doing chores and mostly sleeping while my husband works in the shop. Noah will at some point be an outdoor dog. Our we wrong to keep him in the house now ? We have ferral dogs that have been killing cats, chickens and ducks and don't want him hurt. I really don't want to kennel him in the yard but am worried he will not make the transition to an outdoor dog easily. He seems to understand his job and shows no aggression towards any of the critters or people that live here. How do you raise a guard dog who will live outdoors? Any suggestions would be great!

I have never had an outdoor dog so havent got any useful advise but i do know our Pyr's quite like being outside so maybe when he is older you will find he is quite happy to be outside and will enjoy the outdoor life?

If he is anything like our Troy, he will take to outdoor life like a duck to water. To be quite honest, pyreneans are more outdoor dogs than indoor dogs and in an ideal life, we would love to have Troy as a freerange dog that can come and go as he wishes. And I am pretty sure that he would happily live outdoors 90% of the time (although personally I would want him to be able to come and go as he likes). And if I remember correctly, you got him as a life stock guard, haven't you...

Thank you for the advice........I think I will let Noah who was purchased as a livestock guard but also a member of our multi species family :D, live indoors for the time being. I have noticed some food guarding and am teaching him the leave it command, he does not seem to mind the cats or poultry in his food only other dogs. I have four Standard Poodles 3 females and 1 male who also are indoor dogs, Noah seems for now to have found his place among them. They are regal dogs and will lay with him and share the cushions as well as the endless toy box. I am hoping all continue to get along! Noah will be fixed when he is 6 months old. Has anyone had any experience with Bouvier ? If so how do they compare to a GP?

Bouviers are lovely dogs... I have known one or two in the past... however, I can't really give you much info on them as I don't know much about the breed ... sorry!
