Title: His ears are very matted:P

JayBoy - January 21, 2006 08:04 PM (GMT)
For about the past 2 and a half months I've had my sister brushing Charlie for me as I've been getting ready to fail my A-level modules lol. Well anyway, last night was the first time I'd brushed him in a while... and it was six hours well spent. BUT I realised my sister has been missing his "leg pits" as it were and just behind his ears. The fur is so matted behined the ears that I was convinced he had some mutant growth there lol. So... does anyone have any tips for how to get rid of these? I sorted the pits out myself but the ears are just a pain, and I don't fancy cutting them... because I don't :D so if anyone has any handy tips, they will be pyarly appreciated :P

Thanks, Jay.

To be honest, Jay, I would just cut the mats out behind his ears and in future use a comb there. My husband does all the brushing with Troy (well, it is HIS dog after all... :D ), but he does not always do the ears very well, so every few months I cut the mats with scissors. You have to be very careful because the skin back there is very thin and tender, so you might want to use the help of a person holding his head whilst you are doing it.

Other than that, you might want to get a comb, e.g. a flea comb or similar and tease the mats out very gently.

I use a dematting comb similar to this one for Akira when she gets matted behind her ears , they are great and because of the shape of them easy to use without worrying about stabbing the dog while your removing the matts , If you do get one be very careful as they are quite sharp and i have cut myself a few times and it nips but i would rather cut me that the doggies :D
