Hi,
We are Denise and Dave we live on a 25ac. hobby farm with children, ducks, geese, four standard poodles, horses, lots of outdoor cats, and a old pug (I may be forgeting someone). I also very ocassionally will have a litter of poodle pups. We were owned by a Bouvier for seventeen years, she died about a year ago. Since Ebby's death we have been over run by coons possum, ferral dogs and coyotes. They have killled chickens and ducks hauled off cats and raided the geese. My husband and I after much research have purchased our first Pyrenees. We now have a 12 week old male pup named Noah ( he will be guarding the Ark). I did much training with my bouvier and I did not know how good she was at guarding until she was gone. Bouvier are also stubborn dogs you want to rule the roost! (forgive my spelling please). I am looking forward to training Noah, he is aready spending time with all the animals and meeting lots of nice people. He has accepted all the critters, the other morning he was laying on the front porch sharing his food with 4 cats, two geese a duck and the old pug. He has done well with all the poodles and I am watching so they do not domminate him. So far so good ! We have him staying in the house at night and during the day he is out making rounds with us and doing chores also learning boundries. Hopefully this will be the place to come with problems that may come up with his training. I have read conflicting information when to have him fixed, any input?
Thank you,
Denise and Dave

Hiya, welcome to the forum! It's great to see you here! Pyrs make fantastic life stock guards.

Re neutering: I would always neuter a dog that works unsupervised as I would be too worried that they would suddenly take off after a bitch somewhere and create lots of (unwanted) babies... Our pyrenees is neutered and he is none the worse for it. His temperament stayed exactely the same, nothing changed at all (other than the obvious of course :P ).

Hi and welcome to Proud Pyreneans :D Sounds like your place is ideal for a Pyr and lots of fun too with all the animals roaming around :D

I agree with Vera regarding nuetering but it might be a good idea to talk to your breeder about the best time to nueter your pup as they know the breed well or maybe your local breed club ? I think a lot of people have different and sometimes conflicting ideas about the best time to do the deed , Personally i would let him grow up and mature a bit before getting him done but that is my opinion and i am no expert ;)
