Title: Izzy is poorly
Description: Waiting for the vets to open..

Shazzy - October 4, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
Izzy has been sick since Friday, we called the emergency vet on Sunday and we took a very stressed Iz in the car so by the time she got there she had worked herself up so much it was almost impossible for the vet to check her over.

He gave her an anti sickness jab and some gel stuff to squirt into her stomach later and she seemed better. She refused her dinner Sunday night, but asked for food last night. She tried to eat some ND but couldnt seem to eat it. I chopped up some chicken for her and she ate this hungrily but still seemed to have problems with it.

She has been sick twice in the night and wet herself twice.

We now have to go through the ordeal of getting her to the vets again :(

Oh poor Izzy and poor you , i hope the vet can find out what is causing this sickness and stop it quickly. Loads of healing thoughts headed Izzy's way and big hugs for you all , it is awful when one of our babies is ill

Poor Izzy, I hope she is on the road of recovery.

I know of a few dogs that have had stomach problems lately (including puppies). It seems that some kind of bug is doing the rounds!

Healing thoughts on their way!

Izzy is now under GA they are investigating her thorat mouth and stomach. :(

The vet has phoned to say that she has come out of the GA ok, although very dopey. He has found a "wound" to the back of her mouth and one of her tonsils is infected. The wound is probably what is stopping her eating properly and therefore the stmach is filing with acid and that is what is making her sick, and opening the wound again - vicious circle. He has given her antibiotics, inflammatories and is waiting for her to come too properly.

Ive got a funny feeling it may have been off the piggy lug she had Friday morning :( Izzy isnt a scavenger and doesnt pick up wood or bits to chew, that is the last thing I remember that she ate properly. My poor baby.

Izzy is home - very bleary eyed and hating me. She has had a manicure and pedicure and had the soggy bits from sickie clipped from her chin. She has lots of pills to take so hopefully she will be OK.

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes, Izzy is very appreciative.

No sickness during the night, ate a bit of chicken and rice last night (with pills hidden in it), but she has been sick again this morning and is refusing her chicken. I will try her again later.

I hope Izzy recovers quickly.

When Troy had anaesthetics he always took so long to get back to normal. After he had a dental a year ago, it took him three days to bounce back... That's why we avoid anaesthetics if in any way possible (hence the chiropractic to figure out what is wrong with him rather than x-rays straight away).

But I am sure she will soon be back to her old self.

A quick update on Izzy.

It is only the last day or so that Izzy has alomst returned to normal.

Last Saturday she took a turn for the worst as she hadn't eaten by then for 7 days. The vet said that if we couldnt get anything down her she would have to go in on a drip. Iknow this in itself would have upset her more so between OH and myself and a very large syringe we managed to put a whole tin of Heinz egg custard with rice for up to 3 months  into her and it stayed. We did this every two hours through the night and she was only a very tiny bit sick.

By Sunday she was eating liquidised braising steak  and now is less than happy if there isnt something along those lines in her bowl at night now :ph43r:

She is about 95% better but is still not to full strength so only gets one walk at the moment and only around the block.

She can manage bonios and shapes but turns her head away from piggie lugs and chews so I can only guess that it was the piggy lug that did the damage.

Hope everyone else is ok
