Title: Groomers
Pyreelover - June 12, 2005 10:05 AM (GMT)
Just wondered if any of you have used a proffessional groomer for your Pyr? Akiras puppy coat has been hard work and it is so uneven at the moment she constantly looks like she is having a bad hair day i do keep on top of it so she does not get matted but i have decided to try out a new grooming place which opened up a few miles away as so far the ones i have phoned have been a bit reluctant to do her , one of them even told me that the time it takes to do her they could do 4 small dogs , so it looks like they are just intrested in the money not doing a good job , i think it is sad that some people do not seem to take a pride in their work these days , everything just seems to be abut making a fast buck :(
When i went in yesterday the woman was lovely and she said that she will bath her and groom her clip her nails and trim the hair on her feet for me for £35 which i thought was really reasonable , so 2 weeks from today Akira will have her first proffessional grooming session :D

We have some lovely groomers near us, and the lady has often asked if she can "do" Izzy, but I dont think Iz would like it. :(
She has just started blowing her coat and looks awful all straggly. I brushed her for over an hour yesterday, I had enough fur in the bag to make another 3 puppy pyr's
Ive never bathed Izzy (she does not do water), but I clip her claws for her, she doesnt mind too much just have to get her in the right mood.

Must admit, Troy has never had a bath in the three years we have had him. And people are always surprised when they see him as his fur is beautifully clean and shiny!
Hubby gives him a brush once a week, with a slicker brush and during moulting time with a rake as well.
Other than that, I just trim his feet to make them look tidy, but that's it.

Ok i know im lazy   I do brush madam most days and she gets properly done at least once a week , i just wish her coat was more even its the long and short hair thats driving me nuts , i bet i will take her to the groomers and she will come out looking the same as when she goes in as she is not dirty just looks scruffy
The bonus for me about taking her is getting her nails clipped , as i hate doing it especially since i cut Storms dew claw a wee bit too short and he cried and it bled a wee bit :(
Thankfully Storm has a beautiful coat and a good brush once a week seems to be enough to keep his coat looking great , his coat looks like it has silver threads through it i think thats why Akira looks so scruffy as she is not as white as him and beside him she looks dirty just with her speckled colouring :(

I think you will find that whilst she is still an adolescent she will look fairly "uneven". When she matures her coat will mature with her - I must find the photos of Izzy when she was 6/8 months old, she looked very straggly then, but now her coat has evened out.
When I got home last night, I opened the door and a gust of wind came through - you should have seen the fur floating down the hall, and I had hoovered before I went to work
We still havent got to the part where the hair comes out on clumps yet - cant wait :P
