So, because we're picking new prefects, I've come up with a list of the duties of a prefect.
Q: Hey cool! I've just been made a prefect! What do I have to do?
A: If you were chosen as a prefect, you have shown signs of responsibility. Here's a quick rundown of a prefect's job:
You get to help moderate your House, which includes keeping the Member List updated, and the Prefect's Bathroom. Moderation options given to you in these forums include being able to edit and/or delete other people's posts and topic titles in addition to your own, PROVIDED IT'S ON THE OCCASION THAT THE CONTENT IS INAPPROPRIATE, open/close topics, and pin/unpin topics.
You are obliged to be on the lookout for "troublemakers"--both on the site and within RPGs (meaning, are they breaking Hogwarts rules). It is your responsibility, along with the admins and the Head Boy/Girl, to help crack down on people that are not following the PI regulations. You have the authority to put people in detention if they are breaking rules, but you can't dock or add House points. (If someone deserves to have points added or taken away, talk to an admin about it.)
It is also your responsibility to get people pumped about being here. This includes welcoming the first years after they've been Sorted, encouraging people to join classes and/or Quidditch (and join classes yourself), and perhaps throwing a House party or two. ;) We also expect you to be as active as you can, but DON'T put PI before your life, because your life is much more important.
If you don't think you're up for the job of prefect yet you have been selected, talk to an admin.
Q: Okay, so is there anything else that a prefect gets?
A: Actually, yes. Prefects have a 200 PM storage space, instead of the standard 100. Prefects also have access to the Prefect's Bathroom, and they also go into the running for Head Boy or Girl the next time around.
