Title: Board of Governors
Description: The return of CSFI
TheChinWins - December 8, 2006 03:48 PM (GMT)
It's time for the Board of Governors CSFI (Chin's stupid fucking idea) again.
With it being winter time, and a slow news cycle, there is no better time.
It also coincides well with the six month anniversay (12-21-06).
So here is the deal.
We will hold a nomination process fow one week (12-22-06).
Anyone can nominate anyone. Just not yourself. So this portion will be in the form of a post to this thread.
Commencing 12-23-06, we will vote in the form ofa poll (Harry or creep, we will need one of you to verify people aren't voting 100 times, al a American Idol. I would guess you can do that.)
Voting will go for 2 weeks to allow for peoples holiday plans. (1-05-07).
The board of Governors will consist of 9 duely elected members. Their charge will be to vote via PM to arbitrate excessively silly disputes that were once funny but are now just dumb or borderline disturbing. i.e- This dick keeps using my pic as his avatar. This douchebag is stalking me in every thread and basically fucking up good conversation with 2 pages commenting on whether I'm a pedophile, etc.
A president will be elected by the nine members. All PM votes will go to him. Appropriate actions for continually violating what little rules exist can be voted upon.
Nominate in this thread.
I will start a seperate thread for questions and/or debate or my proposed structure if interest warrants.
Note to Haryy and/or Creep- I'm basically doing this because I;m bored. But it is also in response to 2 threads this week that 2 seperate posters be 'dealt with' LOL.
If you guys don't think this is completely stupid and a waste of time, I would suggest pinning it in "Politics" for the "election cycle" only to get the highest voter turn-out possible. I know that goes against the conventional wisdom. But I tend to be a results oriented type brother.

i don't like it. i don't like it one bit. smells like the message board equivalent of a new world order. we're all adults here for the most part, if someone is hounding you just tell them to beat or ignore them. i know you're bored and are just spitballing, but i object on the grounds that it isn't necessary. harrison seems to have a good enough grip on things. he doesn't abuse his power and has a good sense for balancing the content and entertainment factors of the board.
you just want more power than you currently possess fucker.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaha.
You are one funny dude. Look, nothing against Harry. He is our founding father.
But, in your post, you basically just advocated dictatorship.
"Harrison doesn't abuse his power". LOL
sadus- "No really, he is a good king. So I'm good with no democracy"
(NOTE to Harry-I agree with sadus that you rock as the boards creator and admin, But I HAD to give him shit for this post.)
I also find it funny that you said this, sadus.

As though free and open elections create 'new world orders' and that somehow those elected are predetermined. (HINT- there are almost 100 members here. How could you take that to mean that I would somehow come in to some power over anything?)
An interesting insight to your beliefs, sadus.

i prefer to think of it as a tribe. you don't really need a democracy with such a small board. you just need a strong base willing to police itself, one reasonable open minded admin who's willing to put in the time to oversee things(harrison) and someone else with less power to lend a hand (creep).

please. stop. you're one of the alpha posters of this board. you know as well as i do that a board of 9 governors would obviously include you, as well it should. i personally would boycott the elections, but if i had to nominate guys i'd go with:
harrison, mud, chin, peter, human highway, spacemonkey, noip maybe.....can't even come up with 9, i'd need help from someone who knows everyone better.

you summed up my beliefs on this issue before i even had a chance to post.
It's time for the Board of Governors CSFI (Chin's stupid fucking idea) again.
imo the only thing this board really needs is the ability to click on a memeber name to see a list of their posts. what is that called, some kind of archive or catalog or something.

OK. But get your head around this.
We all migrated here from AFL.
AFL was a place where we were free to do whatever we wished. But ultimately, the failure of an unknown and distant authority to address the transgressions of a small minority caused us (read Harry) to take matters into our own hands and seek a better place. (Is this sounding familiar yet?).
Now, after some time, the harbingers of previous behavior have begun again. Are we not to learn from history, and address things BEFORE they become issues? Or do we sit idly by, with no sense that WE the members of the tribe, MUST positively contribute to the tribe's common good? No Doubt that Harry can handle it, if that were ever to become necessary. But, particularly in a place specifically created for the purposes of discussing politics and government, do you not feel we have a right, if not responsibilty, to address our form of governement? And to do so in a way that is inclusive of the entire community, in a fair and open forum?

I'm 100% behind Chin on this one... and I'll make the first nomination.

Making a new thread at this poin. So that nominations can be stnad alone and discussion/debate/suggestions can remain here.
I know I said nominate here in my original post. But it is just easier to move the nominees to a new thread at this point.

My pleasure. I've never met a new and innovative approach to creating layers of governmental bureaucracy that I didn't love.
Well, except maybe one.
Nice profile. LOL

what led you to create your own board?
I came over from an invision board as well - cbs crashed again - a bunch of posters from cbssportsline boards that used to crash all the time so someone made their own board

The idea being that a distant (ESPN through the internet and Britian across the ocean) are not in a position to govern a free people, with little understanding of said people. ESPN left the AFL board unmonitored because it was non sports abd did not serve their core interset. Britian left the continent relatively unmonitored as long as the ships full of goods kept coming.
Get it.

goofballs creating multiple usernames, inneffective, inconsistent and more often than not non-existent moderation, layout/style got old... so Harry Bergeron got the (very good) idea to create a board of our own, followed through with it, and voila.
TheChinWins - December 9, 2006 12:52 AM (GMT)
Yeah.
Harry, space, myself, Monkey and a few others dipped and dodge around on some other boards on ESPN a few times a temporay homes when the AFL board was getting spammed. But, ultimately, Harry was the only visionary among us.
Long live LFOD.

im sure one of the oldtimers could give you a story of why the arena football league board at espn was being used as a political board.
it all started with rush limbaugh and dennis miller....
oh, and can i nominate people who dont post here? i think patchboy would make an excellent mod.

Patchboy is already doing exactly as much moderating as he would if he were here. So, sure, why not. He's a mod.

Here, I'll give the explanation as I understand it. Way back, when the NFL had Dennis Miller doing MNF, there was a MNF board on ESPN. Because of Miller, and ESPN hiring Rush, political discussions became more frequent on the MNF board. Posters like Mud, NOIP, Creep, hayman, Chucky V, and SpaceMonkey were the "originals", more or less. Eventually, ESPN redid their boards and they wound up congregating on the MNF2 board. Then they redid their boards again, and some retard decided that there needed to be two AFL boards, so the politicos grabbed the second one. Then ESPN got rid of that, so they took the AFL General board. Some point after that, in early 2005, I found the place. Eventually, ESPN got suckier and suckier. I had for some time been contemplating starting up an Invision board and seeing if people would dig the idea, but I wasn't sure anyone would give a rat's ass to move somewhere else to continue spewing bile at each other. Then one day Creep suggested we should do something like that, and so I went ahead and did it, and rather to my pleasant surprise almost everyone from the AFL board made the leap. And so, here we are today.

i still don't see the need. it seems from this quote of yours that the purpose of this would basically be to control hayman and vindaloo. and maybe gmen.

I went there early on, but stopped going for a couple of months.
When I returned, it was almost all new faces. Then ESPN completely changed the boards and got rid of the MNF board,
