:yup:

This has to be a bit of an eye-opener. The Dems could consider themselves lucky if they still control both houses after the mids.

If they don't pull out all the stops to cram this HC bill down our throats before the next class comes in, I'll be shocked.

How so?

Deeds ran away from the President and his agenda and lost by almost 20.

Corzine ran towards the President and with him and lost to a fat tub of goo.

I don't see how anything can be gleaned from these results in terms of health care. In fact, with Owens taking advantage of the right wing cannibalism in upstate NY, the night probably netted an additional vote for it.

Look at blue dog districts and see how much Christie and McDonnell won by. Huge Margins

A third party candidate almost won in New York State. A Republican will most likely win that next time.

There will be much number-crunching tomorrow, but preliminary numbers (at least in Virginia) show that GOP turnout remained the same as last year, but Democratic turnout collapsed. This is a base problem, and this is what Democrats better take from tonight:

1. If you abandon Democratic principles in a bid for unnecessary "bipartisanship", you will lose votes.

2. If you water down reform in favor of Blue Dogs and their corporate benefactors, you will lose votes.

3. If you forget why you were elected -- health care, financial services, energy policy and immigration reform -- you will lose votes.

Tonight proved conclusively that we're not going to turn out just because you have a (D) next to your name, or because Obama tells us to. We'll turn out if we feel it's worth our time and effort to vote, and we'll work hard to make sure others turn out if you inspire us with bold and decisive action.

The choice is yours. Give us a reason to vote for you, or we sit home. And you aren't going to make up the margins with conservative voters. They already know exactly who they're voting for, and it ain't you.

on what issue did creigh deeds disagree with the current democrat agenda?

petervonnostrand - November 4, 2009 03:03 PM (GMT)
obamacare is dying, not dead, because public opinion has cratered...so much so tha lieberman says he wont vote for cloture for any bill that contains the public option...so much so that reid says it might not get done until 2010...

everyday it gets delayed is another day for it to rot in the sun as more and more details are made public...

we can hope that dems take kos' advice...run left, dems, and hard...

Obama went to NJ, Corzine lost. He went to VA, Deeds lost.

He did ads for both, they lost.

While I agree this vote was not wholly about Obama, it seems obvious that it had a lot to do with his policy preferences.

Healthcare did nothing to help in either VA and NJ for instance:

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/...e-69064722.html

The candidate who won on the combination of economic issues won the race. And what is also noteworthy is that the candidate who won on the issue of health care -- currently the top concern of President Obama and Democrats in Washington -- lost the race.

And yes, the math is in there.

Ok, so the base didn't come out in huge numbers.

Meanwhile both Deeds and Corzine were swamped in the Ind vote. They got demolished.

Corzine losing is a humiliation for the Dems.

Swap national security, lower taxes and the conservative issues of your choice.

Health care would be dead and buried already if the right had been focusing their criticism on the individual mandate rather than a government plan that covers 5 people.
