Title: Did you see that coming?

So the Charger fans....and you know who you are...and the great Brees-Rivers dust-up....

did anyone expect Brees to become the best QB in football after he left SD?

JohnDough - October 19, 2009 05:06 PM (GMT)
Brees did.

I'd still take Rivers.

Fuck AJ Smith, Norv Turner and Dean Spanos.

Thought he had top 5 potential. Still prefer Rivers, but you may be splitting hairs. I think the offense in NO plays more to Brees' strengths than the oes he played in in SD.

Dough's a bitter fair-weather fan.

It's not even close. Ask any non-Charger fan who they'd take and I bet it's nearly unanimous. Brees can be mentioned with Peyton and Brady for who is the best QB in the NFL. If you try to throw Rivers in that conversation, you'd get laughed at.

and boys and girls, we call that a homer...

perhaps in a few years you might be rght, but today, in 2009 and in reality, i have to say

are you fucking stoned?

Then you don't know what you're talking about. It's that simple.

Funny. Your only reasoning for Rivers over Brees?

Solid. You would think that with some of the receivers SD has, along with what some considered the best RB in the NFL, and he still hasn't come close to producing what Brees has shown.

That isn't the reasoning. But if you wanted to start that discussion you could compare stats from last season, in which Brees really only lead in yardage. You could talk about winning perecentagesm. You could compare playoff tracxk records (heack, even with the same team). Lots of. Things I haven't discussed.

As for the one thing you seized upon, you weren't paying attention. Comparing today's offensive scheme and personnel to Martyball with Keenan McCardell/Eric Parker is silly. Oh, and Rivers is younger..

Not sure I want to compare Brees' record-setting 08 year, especially considering how many injuries the Saints had on offense.

I'm not saying Rivers is bad by any means, but I don't think there's much debate that Brees is one of the top 3 QBs in the league right now and Phillips is in the next tier.

I'd be perfectly willing to compare their 08 years. Look at the numbers.

Injuries? This is about as strong as "Giants didn't win, Cowboys lost.". Look up SD's injury situation last year if you want to go down that path.

I'm not impugning Brees. He's a very good player. But I believe you used the word "laughable" which suggests you think that there is a tremendous gap. I do not. As I said, Rivers has not been in the league as long as Brees. He's an elite QB and he's getting better. I think he's got the higher ceiling. Time will tell.
