A helicopter carrying Stevie Ray Vaughn and members of Eric Clapton's crew crashed into a hill just after takeoff in East Troy, Wisconsin.
This is a Fender promotion video with SRV playing "Little Wing".

Damn, sure was. I'm going to be at Town Lake later today; I would imagine his statue will be flower-laden.
Hard to believe we've been without him this long.
My dad knew him and Jimmy when they were kids in Oak Cliff.
Thanks for posting this. He's one of my all-time favorites. I still feel his loss pretty profoundly. Saw a ton of his shows....I always loved his incoherent mumblings about South Africa LOL
I remember exactly where I was when I found out....I read it in USA Today on a train platform in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
He is sorely missed.
Mr Galt....have a great time out at Town Lake :)
well thankfully bands like Coldplay are still around.
