Like them a lot too, didnt hear much of them until I was a little older though so I dont associate as many memories with their stuff.
Prowling - April 4, 2009 12:21 PM (GMT)
I don't associate the 90s with bands. Maybe because compared to the 80s it seemed lame. And this decade has been far worse. This is the Golden Age of Crap Music. I associate the 90s with the slick, corrupt Clinton administration. No scruples. A decade of debauchery.
Here's a song Pats will like. It's probably still on the charts in New Mexico (Did we really need an additional Mexico?) It's the song that the Flo Rida idiot sampled...

Pats likes Coldplay so that right there eliminates him from anything musical.
ComandantePepsi - April 4, 2009 06:02 PM (GMT)
The best band of the 90s is the same as the best band of the 80s.

I have not joined the current craze of dismissing U2 as crap. However, it seems pretty obvious that their best work was in the 80's. They sure as hell were not the best band of the 90's. Achtung Baby was very good, and Zooropa was underrated, but that only takes it to 1993, after which it turns mediocre.
Best band of the 90's? Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Radiohead, R.H.C.P., Soundgarden, etc.

You know how I know Oak's gay? He only likes girls because he chooses to.
Dal1as - April 5, 2009 04:04 AM (GMT)
Are any of those bands still around anymore? They were decent then but gone now. U2 decent in the 80's but sucked since then. I'll go with Maiden, actually just got back from their Florida concert. End of a 3 year tour. When they hang em up they will be known as the best all time Heavy Metal group ever.
Up the Irons!

I know you said etc., but I'm throwing in NIN, Stone Temple Pilots, The Pixies, Green Day, Beck, Tom Waits.

Bono is a poseur.
Now I’m back in my own house in Dublin, uncorking some nice wine, ready for the vinegar it can turn to when families and friends overindulge, as I am about to. Right by the hole-in-the-wall cellar, I look up to see a vision in yellow: a painting Frank sent to me after I sang “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” with him on the 1993 “Duets” album. One from his own hand. A mad yellow canvas of violent concentric circles gyrating across a desert plain. Francis Albert Sinatra, painter, modernista.

Bono fucks up a cool band that stopped making good records in the early 90s.
Radiohead, Soundgarden, Pixies, Beck, Tom Waits. Yes.
RATM, Nirvana, Tool, PJ Harvey

civilde - April 12, 2009 07:21 PM (GMT)
well a good chunk of these bands being mentioned i consider 80's bands. i mean, the pixies released 2 albums in the 90's, but that was in '90 and '91 and they promptly split. i really consider doolittle('89) to be their essential album and they have an 80's sound to me, before shoegaze/grunge/other90saltrock.
and then friggin U2 and iron maiden and metallica, etc. to me those are 80's bands through and through no matter what releases they had in the 90's.

uh, no. that would be like me asking you if you sit around and bore your friends all day with smilies. the internets is not a good analogy for real life.
we do tend to value intelligent conversation. funny how being able to explain why you like something or believe something tends to lead to that rather than just saying "i like _____".
ps. music information is not useless.

If you mean facial expressions - yes... we make those.
Smiles are used here in place of that. :D
But no one cares about your explanation here... truly.
civilde - April 12, 2009 08:41 PM (GMT)
is this the point where i say "then why do you keep responding"? internets can be confusing.
if no one else cares about the demarcation between 80's and 90's music no one will respond to me. thats fine. it happens plenty. if i drew some sort of validation from the internets it might bother me.
so i guess i must say adieu to our little roundy round as you have nothing to add and i find this type of conversation boring and pointless.
