i have heard that the ban on thujone has been lifted, and absinthe is making its way back onto the american market.

has anyone seen any in any of their local liquor stores or taverns?

look for Lucid, the only brand I'm aware of that is available in the U.S

I have had absinthe a few times, and have to say it is overrated. If one is expecting some some of psychedelic trip, you will be disappointed.

Basically an expensive, somewhat foul-tasting ouzo/Sambuca.

Just trying to bring a little class to the joint, mon ami.

i started mixing different things with it, and find that club soda is nice - a little fizz in there really sets it off.

I've never had it. What does it taste like?

heavy anise taste, with a fennel kick - sort of like an anise biscuit dipped in grain alcohol, but only for a second. mixing it with the sugar added a cooler taste - kind of like an altoid, but somewhere between peppermint and ouzo. the fizz brought out more of a licorice taste.
i didn't get around to sampling a 5th mixture...

Ooo, I like ouzo, so I may have to give this a try.

A 5th mixture???

i did the first one as instructed - 1:5 w/ cold water over the sugar cube
then the second one i mixed a little stiffer - about 3:1 w/ cold water over the sugar
then the third one, i left out the sugar and mixed it at about 4:1
then the last one i did with club soda and no sugar.
