Title: Solzhenitsyn

John_Galt - May 2, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
The man is a fucking genius. I'm reading Cancer Ward right now, but I thought the First Circle was Solzhenitsyn at his best. His time is perhaps past by now, but he was an important voice in anti-Soviet resistance during the Cold War.
Anybody read him? Appreciate him?

I read Gulag Archipelago

Amazing book and showed the true evils of the communist and atheist regime.

i wish some of the faux libertarians here would read his works.

Well the 'book' is typically translated in 3 volumes so nearly 2000 pages, I'm guessing. I'd like to say I have read it, but it's a pretty daunting undertaking.

Maybe it was longer. I read it when I was freshman in college. It was a lot of reading. I'll look when I get home.

Joyce's Ulysses was the biggest reading commitment I ever made.

there's an abridged version that runs around 500 pages I think. has all 7 sections but leaves out a lot of...eh..."less important" stories.

I seem to remember buying a copy (probably of the abridged version) at a stoop sale a few years ago. But it's probably packed in a box somewhere.
