Title: HDMI vs Component

ghost_of_creep - October 8, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
I just hooked up my PS3 with an HDMI cable. I didn't expect any difference over component at less than 1080p resolution, but was surprised to find everything noticeably crisper and the colors richer.

BTW, don't ever buy video cables retail, buy online. digital is digital, the signal quality is the same.

If it was a DVD that's because the PS3 up converts them but can only do that through HDMI cables. If it was a game you got me. :chinstroke:

it's a game. I figure it's just a better signal so better colors and such even though the resolution is the same. looking forward to a 1080p game, though. GT5 should be the shit....in June.

Looking forward to that too. All the 720p games aren't giving me the bang for my buck!

Will component cables help the picture quality of a PS2?

Dr. Gonzo - October 9, 2007 06:26 AM (GMT)
When I got my PS3 last month, I got an HDMI cable to go along with it. The difference is quite obvious. I might even end up giving my 360 to my brother so I can get the Elite version just to be able to use HDMI with my Xbox games.

PS: Heavenly Sword looks fucking awesome in 1080p w/HDMI.

yes. some games (like Socom) even support 480p resolution which is much better than standard def (480i).

gee, you mean you have to buy a special XBox 360 in order to use HDMI? funny, it's standard on the PS3. oh, and so is WiFi. and Bluetooth. hmmm.....

:<_<:

does the XBox 360 have optical digital audio output?

ghost_of_creep - October 9, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
oh, and I thought my HDMI cable was fucked up or something. I'm watching 300 last night and the picture looks like shit - it's all grainy. so I start digging online to see if I can adjust some settings or something, only to find out it's the movie...that's the way they produced it. D'OH!

Beautiful, now if they could get some games. Xbox had plenty of time to add HDMI, hell they could wait longer because PS3 still has shit for exclusives and Gran Turismo has been bumped back like everything they promise.
As far as 1080P, if you bought a HDtv within the last few years the highest you would have is 1080I. 1080P available now and the most expensive so people are still buying the cheaper sets. My tv is only 2 years old. I certainly won't exchange it for 1080P because unless you are a videophile it doesn't make that much difference.

I think your brains are telling you it should look better. Many articles out there stating the same thing.

I had the same problem. I thought there was something wrong with my TV or my system, until I popped in Casino Royale and it looked beautiful.

Thanks, producers of the 300 blueray. :<_<:

Heavenly Sword is a 720p game if I'm not mistaken.

it's not the Bluray version, it's all versions of that movie. that's how it was produced, it looked like that in theaters, too.
