Title: Same old with Sony

Redneck Jihad - September 21, 2007 11:36 PM (GMT)
Figured the Playstation name was enough to keep them on top, used the new console to push Blu Ray to the masses and ignored the gamers. For a smart gaming company they are just now realizing what many of us have been saying? Back to basics? Are you kidding me?

they didn't ignore the gamers. paying attention to others is not the same thing.

They admit as much in this article. I will take his word for it. Their initial goal was to push Blue Ray to the market and they figured what better way then the stronghold they thought they had in the game console corner.

Hirai said the core strategy would be to position the PlayStation 3 as a game machine as well as a way to view next-generation Blu-ray disc video.

"We must get back to the basics," he said.

I don't think the Bluray thing was a bad strategy, I just think it was a mistake to let other things suffer. they really need to push for the developers to get the games on shelves for the holiday season. it could be make-or-break for them.

?? Thats what I told you before and you argued its a marathon vs a sprint. I said that they better have something by this holiday season. They just announced again that they aren't dropping the price, they have no system sellers, home is delayed until next year. They have to do something to change direction because Halo 3 is going to explode tonight.

it IS a marathon and not a sprint. if they don't do well this holiday season then they're falling farther behind in the marathon. would it automatically be the final nail in the coffin? no. but down the road if they never recover it would be looked at that way.

that doesn't mean shit. they're not stupid enough to tell people ahead of time that they're going to drop the price in a couple months, because then current sales would go in the toilet.

I don't really think that's a big deal. I can't see ANYONE (besides a very few hard-core gamers) buying a $500 game system for ONE game.

par for the course. they want to get it right rather than release a piece of shit. the exact opposite of how Microsoft does business (and I'm not just talking about XBox).

good for Halo 3. how many people who are buying Halo 3 do you think already do or don't have an XBox 360?

Relax Creep. You will get a game worthy of Gears, Bioshock, Halo, etc. etc. someday. FYI, 1 game does sell consoles. The first Halo is what brought Microsoft into the competition.

We will find out in the next couple of weeks but the answer is definitely not zero.

Something to chew on. Didn't you claim the 360 sales were plummeting?
