Title: Yum!

Kali Maa - September 5, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
I can't really say that I'm an experienced wine (or any other alcoholic beverage for that matter) drinker... so I don't know a thing about swirling, the aroma I'm supposed to look for, testing the color against a white background etc. I just know that I bought the cheapest bottle of wine that looked pretty and seemed sweet and I loved it.

Arbor Mist Exotic Fruits White Zinfandel (and also their Strawberry flavor).
I can't drink more than half a glass, but it's really delicious!

In the spring of 1978, Joseph Phelps Vineyards released its 1974 Insignia, becoming the first California winery to produce a blend of traditional Bordeaux varietals under a proprietary name. The Napa Valley winery recently released the 2003 Insignia, marking the 30th vintage of this highly acclaimed series.

The wine—84 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 percent Petit Verdot, 3 percent Merlot and 3 percent Malbec—was bottled and blended in February 2006, after being fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged 24 months in new French oak barrels. An impressive 87 percent of the fruit came from estate-owned vineyards in Stag’s Leap, Rutherford and St. Helena, with the rest from independent growers. (Prior to the 1990 vintage, Insignia was sourced from the best available grower fruit.)

The 2003 Insignia is layered with aromas of blackberries, black cherries, anise, dark chocolate and coffee, and has an extremely long finish. It should pair well with steak, beef tenderloin and lamb loin.

whenever i'm in Portland, we get together and go to this great steak house (El Gaucho) and share a few bottles - great stuff!

 how lovely... I'll drink it if the alcohol content doesn't come out much in the taste... forgetting all about my poor liver.

I get worried about that actually... so every time that I drink something (maybe every other month) like that, I cleanse my liver by drinking vinegar the entire next day.

Deep purple color, with blue hues. It is still young.  Warm nose with red ripe fruits (currants, cherry, plum, licorice). Also a scent of menthol. Tarry background.  The palate is layered with sweet notes of currants and cherry jam. Very opulent and spicy, with round and sweet tannins. Full-bodied with medium acidity. The aftertaste lasts about 30 sec. Everything here is balanced.

ok.....how about you just say it tastes good?

Oak, think of it in terms of football. Think of how you would describe how a player moves, etc., and then just apply it to wine. You can say a player is good, but that doesn't tell you anything about how he plays. The same is true for wine.

uh, arbor mist barely has any alcohol content....

you should try any German or California Riestling... very fruity. ASk for German/ Cali, not dry Riestling (phonetically Reestling) I believe you should also ask for a non sour fruit flavor.

If you are someone who goes completey bonkers off of fruit, try any Sangria wine.

WTF is wrong with you, Pats? There are tons of people out there, like myself, who enjoy wine (and art, for that matter), but I'm not rich.

Wine is like anything else we consume, there are degrees from incredibly good to simply awful. Just because someone enjoys the "good stuff" doesn't make them a snob.

There isn't a consensus for him to follow when it comes to art.

Though I agree $100+ wine is well above and beyond.... I will say there is a time and place for everything. I may sometimes call art conesours pretencious (sp?), but it's not snobbish.

Sorry guys, it's the truth, and DRPOST, if there's no consensus, what sets the price? And dont tell me age, because the sh*t I posted for 138 bucks is from 2003.

so are you saying that is too much to pay for a great bottle of wine?

Good job proving my point for me, btw Oak. What's considered? Who considers it? Does it taste good? Then drink it.

I give a f*ck what you think. [/sarcasm]

I can't really say that I'm an experienced semen (or any other bodily fluid for that matter) drinker... so I don't know a thing about swirling, the aroma I'm supposed to look for, testing the color against a white background etc.  I just know that I bought the cheapest bottle of semen that looked pretty and seemed sweet and I loved it.

Arbor Mist Exotic Fruits White Mangoo (and also their Strawberry flavor).
I can't drink more than half a glass, but it's really delicious!

Don't sell yourself short.

And uh, I suspect this post is really only of interest for 4l4n.

:o Why lookie here Oakie Poakie... Flabio changed my wording... I wonder if it was because he was being a swell, upstanding guy? :D

Talk about pissing your money away.

Insignia and Arbor Mist are both wines in the same way that Stephen Hawking and you are both scientists.

You get what you pay for...

Arbor Mist is adult Kool-Aid.

FWIW, here is a super bottle of Cab for a special occasion. You'll pay around $50 for it from a smart wine shop.

I worked for years in the wine industry. Wildhare is right about the $15-25 price level. Buy a bottle of Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon for $16 and find out for youself.

Arbor Mist has its place. My wife used to drink nothing but white zinfandel, but not the fruity version like Arbor Mist. Now she'll likes bold reds like cabs and zins.

Arbor Mist is a great starting point for your journey into the world of wine. :D

nice label - obviously the use of the word "Oak" is what makes that wine so impressive.

I don't think I'm set up for a journey and will stick with the kool aid of wines... I can barely handle half a glass. :D

I also think that wine is an acquired taste... I've tasted some that are just... well, really strong and bitter. I don't think I'd enjoy drinking something until I was finally used to it. I'd rather be the person who experienced wine drinkers laugh at, than to be included and not exactly happy with the taste. You know? :) NO insult at all intended on those that actually enjoy it.

Oh, you are so right, Silver Oak rocks. I'm also a big fan of Stags Leap and Justin. Have you ever heard of a little winery from the Ca coast called Dunning? Really good wines (esp the reds) and very affordable. It's run by a husband and wife team (the guy looks like David Crosby lol).
