| Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- German soccer club SC Paderborn said it suspended captain Thijs Waterink after it learned he accepted money before a match in which the third division club beat elite Bundesliga team SV Hamburg last August. Waterink, 36, received 10,000 euros ($13,031) close to the Hermann Loens stadium in Paderborn on Aug. 21, the day of the game, ``from a man with a Mediterranean appearance unknown to him,'' Paderborn's president Wilfried Finke said at a televised press conference. Speaking to N24 television, Finke said the man wanted the money back if Paderborn didn't win. |
