thank you that is all!

What are you talking about? There are juniors, there are the world championships, we don't need the NHL!

thank you that is all!

youve lost me pal :(

Neo - March 16, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
you see tedski, in North America we have the top hockey league in the world, the NHL - with players from all over the world, think of it as the Premiership of hockey. We have lost an entire season of hockey over a labour dispute between the players and the owners, and there is still no certainty if it will be solved anytime soon.

tedski - March 16, 2005 05:52 PM (GMT)
i heard about the strike when it happend, weird!! just cant imagine that happening in the premiership,i hope not!

Neo - March 16, 2005 08:04 PM (GMT)
The difference is if the premiership did it, you'd still have serie A and other good quality leagues to watch. Outside the NHL, there is no league that even comes close, but I guess it comes with the territory. Soccer has a larger talent pool than hockey since it is played more widely around the world, so there is room for more players and leagues.

The two sides are meeting today, likely nothing to happen though.

Rumour has it if the NHL does not settle before April 20th (NHL Meeting) that the NHL will declare an impasse and attempt to bring in replacement players. The AHL may become the NHL, as the NHL may use AHLers as well as players from Europe. Would be irony at it's best - NHLers went to Europe and to the AHL to take players' jobs, and now those same players will be doing it to them! I'm a player supporter, but that'd just be hysterical.

The entry draft (according to the Ottawa Sun) is going to be cancelled today.

In other fascinating news...the NFL..the supposed ideal model of how a league should be run, how well a cap works - is on the brink of its own disaster. There are problems agreeing on revenues and owners want more than 36% of revenues. Perhaps after seeing the NHL owners fighting for 45% they too think they should have more? What will Bettman have to say once the NFL has its own lockout and proves that a cap is not so fine and dandy?

TSN has learned the NHL has formally filed an ''unfair labor practice'' complaint with the National Labor Relations Board in the United States over the NHLPA's apparent policy that any NHLPA member who were to become a replacement player next season would have to re-pay the lockout ''stipend'' he is currently receiving from the union.

This stipend or lockout benefit figure is estimated to be in the $10,000 a month range per player. Any NHLPA member is eligible to receive the benefit, but media reports have suggested players have been told they would be forced to give back any benefit monies if they became replacement players for the league next season.

Meanwhile, a certified player agent who represents NHLPA members told TSN the league is also ''threatening'' to file another ''unfair labor practice'' complaint against the NHLPA on the issue of player agents representing replacement players.

The NHLPA has indicated to its certified player agents that any agent who would negotiate a contract on behalf of a replacement player next season would be in danger of losing his NHLPA certification. The agent who spoke to TSN said he has been told the league believes that the NHLPA's threat of decertification to the agents is an ''unfair labor practice'' and that the NHL is prepared to file a complaint over it with the NLRB.

But NHL team sources say they've only been notified on the filing of one grievance to this point.

It is clear where Bettman's priorities are - paving the way for replacement players instead of trying to work out a deal. Boy do I hate this guy with each passing day.

please wake me when this is over

Los Angeles Kings' president Tim Leiweke says the NHL will return this fall.

''We're back playing hockey in September. We will have a King season,'' Leiweke said at a news conference on Friday.  ''And there's an enormous amount of conviction and planning toward the fan. The fan has become a high priority for us and we can't abuse that trust.''

''Fans want to see guys who are hard-working and grounded and decent. Fans want to see a competitive team that works hard. We've got a moment in time here to maybe get sports back on track, and I'd certainly like to do that. I'm excited about it. It's time to get on with it.''

If fans were a priority the season never would have been cancelled. I don't know how many fans are going to pay money to watch replacement players either.

Zurawski - March 30, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
The NHL is thinking of introducing bigger nets to increase scoring. They are also looking at shootouts to settle ties, as well as tag-up offsides and a number of other things. Nothing is set yet.

also just read that the two sides are going to meet on Monday
