| Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz moved to Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic on Friday on a short-term contract, after failing to battle his way back into the Anfield line-up. The 30-year-old Swiss international has signed a deal to play for Celtic until the end of the season. Despite playing a major role in helping Liverpool claim their cup treble in 2001, he has not won favour under coach Rafael Benitez. "I'm very happy with the deal. I'm leaving one great club for another great club," Henchoz said. "There were a few others interested but as soon as I heard of Celtic's interest and met Martin O'Neill that was it. "After Liverpool playing at Parkhead here in European competition, I know all about the atmosphere that is created by the Celtic support in the stadium and I can't wait to experience that in a Celtic shirt," he added. "There are 15 games left in the league. I hope to play a part in not only retaining the title for Celtic, but also adding the Scottish Cup to lift the double." |
