Title: Pre-registering Slots

I am request that you review the policy on Open Slots for Pre-Registration. I really think you should allow players to sign up for more events then what the limit is set now. I was thinking of increasing the open slots by another 4 to 6 would be nice.

For example I signed up for a 4 hour game and a 6 hours game and I am now stuck with 3.5 remaining. And there are 2 additional games I am interested in. On top of that, there is no way to sign up for either of the 9 hours events, because if you do you would not be able to sign up for any other event. Luckly the Epic GM gave his email and I was able to email him I was interested.

I wonder what others think of this.

The current restriction on event registration is in place in part to force people to sign up for only those events that they definitely want to commit time to. If the limit is increased too far, it allows people to sign up for every eveny they might potentially consider thinking about possibly playing in. With limited seating at each event, that would potentially allow a small handful of people to monopolize the preregistration for every event, even though they might not have any real intention of playing, thus denying the opportunity to those players who are honestly looking forward to participating.

That said, I do know that the way the database is currently set up, the time "cost" of registering for each event can be set indepentently from the actual time the game consumes. So, if it's really bothering you, you might ask the moderator to consider changing the cost of an individual event if it seems overly "expensive".

I completely understand why the restriction is in place and agree with you on limiting how many games you can sign up for. But the system in place right now just is not working for games that run longer then 4 hours.

Maybe they look at allowing you to sign up for a number of events and don't look at the time those events are. Allow everyone who has pre-register to sign up for there top 4 games they want to play in? I think that is a fair number of games, for the number of slots over the 4 days.

Thanks for your concern Tom, it's understandable. We'll talk about it at the next mtg. we have coming up. :) I like your thoughts and suggestions, we'll see how the ConEvents staff feel about it when it is brought up.

The secret which I believe you have found, is buying your badge. (Which you have done) This grants you extra slots to sign up events with. The theory is to get people to buy their badge before we let them signup for a huge number of events. A person with a badge is more likly to show up for the events he signed up for.

A slot is 4 hours. The average event is 4 hours.

Events that are 2 hours are 0.5 slots
Events that are 4 hours are 1.0 slots
Events that are 6 hours are 1.5 slots
Events that are 8 hours are 2.0 slots
Events that are ... I think you see a pattern

Its not a perfect system, but its one the site has in place currently.
