Title: Exalted 2nd Edition
Description: Why you should come early and leave late

MoleMaster - June 4, 2006 04:36 AM (GMT)
White Wolf's official demo team The Wrecking Crew will be running Exalted 2nd Edition games at ConGames this year. (BTW, The Wrecking Crew is the team doing the Promethean previews this year.)
Why should you come early? Well, for the first official Exalted Monkey Hump. It starts at 7:00 PM on Thursday and ends after every last zombie is dead. There's room for as many players as we can fit at a table, and it will take that many Solars to take out 10,000 zombies. After all, the valley on the other side of that mountain pass needs protection from the forces of the Mask of Winters.
Tune in everyday for a preview of the characters available for you to play.
And as for why its called a Monkey Hump, you'll have to show up to find out.

Sounds great, zombie maddness is fun.

Is Exaulted a fantasy game or another world of darkness game?

FigmentofYourImagination - June 7, 2006 05:13 AM (GMT)
Exaulted was originally imagined as the pre-history of the World of Darkness, like Earthdawn to Shadowrun, but that was trashed by the time 1st edition reached print. It's an anime/manga-influenced fantasy TCG and table-top RPG. :ph43r:

MoleMaster - June 12, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
Actually, Exalted 1st Edition had the tagline "Before there was a World of Darkness..." attached to all its products. This ended about two years into the line.
It is a manga/anime inspired RPG, but the TCG does not really exist yet (its still in playtest). It also draws insipation from Tanith Lee and Michael Moorcock (Flat Earth and Hawkmoon, respectively) and those good old-fashioned myths: Gilgamesh, the Iliad, even the Bible.
Visit www.white-wolf.com and click on the Exalted links to learn more.

Why does Exalted rock? Well, in D&D you start out as a Bob, the fighter with a loincloth, a rusty dagger, and the fighting skills of a blind, apoleptic, schoolboy. In Exalted, you start out as Miyamoto, the mighty warrior clad in magic golden armor and weilding an orichalcum daiklave (think a Cloud sword from FF7) and the ability to smite legions of soldiers. And that's before you've had your coffee.

In Exalted, you are the Solar Exalted, demigods reborn into a time of chaos. The Scarlet Empress, who once ruled Creation with an iron fist has disappeared, and her empire, the Realm, turns ever inward, gearing up for a succession war. Because of this, the wyld hunt, a force that once existed to hunt down the Solars (termed Anathema by the Immaculate Order, the state religion of the realm) and exterminate them, has faltered in its duties. Now the Solars have returned to the world en masse, and they are hear to remake it for good or for ill.

Solars group themselves into groups called circles. Even though the big game Thursday night will have enough room for all takers, a core of fifteen pre-genned characters will be offered. These form three perfect circles, a group consisting of one five Exalted: one from each caste.

Man, fifteen characters. That's a lot, especially for Solars!

I did not know that Earthdawn was a pre-runner to Shadowrun!

But sometimes its fun playing the meek farmboy who runs off and saves the world... This sounds fun too with army crushing power, too much for for a single player...

Sounds like a great game for the munchkin-minded power gamer, right up there with Feng Shui!

Well, Feng Shui is a power-notch or two down from Exalted. As MoleMaster said, you start off as a goddling in Exalted. Imagine playing Feng Shui with one of the Four Monarchs, Gao Zhang, Quan Lo, Kar Fai, or the like as your starting character!

I'd definately argue with you that Feng Shui is for munchkin gamers, but if you want to go there we should start another thread.

Not a Big Fan of the Wrecking Crew. Sorry guys.

I've seen Computer RPGs with more character development.

Exalted used as a Whack-A-Zombie Fest!!!!!???

That's like taking your Ferrari out for a Dirt Track Bust'em Up.

IOW, it's not the best representation of what the game can do/is about.

Yeah, Dunkelzahn is the Dragon BlackThorn (Or Horn, been too long), the Blood Elf Queen is Still Alive, and more fun stuff. =P

Not a Big Fan of the Wrecking Crew. Sorry guys.

It takes all kinds to make the world go around. The Wrecking Crew has a big following of players. The great thing about the Con is the shear number of events that we have at Phoenix Con Games. Truly there is something for everyone.

Heck I know it’s not my play style to be able to kill whole armies in a single thrust of my sword, but Anime proves there is a market for high power over the top characters.

I also know that many people don’t want to claw there way through a realistic game that a single hit from a sword or gun is nearly always fatal. The other great thing about the Con is if you don’t know what kind of event you like, try something out, and see if it’s for you.

If you hate it, look at the event and thing; was it due to the event? Or due to the players, or due to the Event Coordinator. Don’t rule out a system, player or event coordinator with a single bad experience.

I have played a number of Palladium events over the year, and can say that the system is not my favorite. Even with a Great Party, and Great Event Coordinator the system tweaks me a bit. This after I did 3 or 4 different worlds with the same base system.

st_gulik - June 29, 2006 06:41 PM (GMT)
It's not the system, and it's not the players, and it's not the setting.

I Love Exalted. I ran a very successful 3 year Exalted game that had a beginning, middle, and awesome ending.

It's not the System. I've run/played/LARPED White Wolf Games for YEARS, and I've enjoyed the system immensely.

Hell, I used the new base WoD system to create a RPG for Crimson Skies.

It's not the players. Not only have I run away from a Wrecking Crew eight hour game that was no where near being finished with a PC Abomination and six other players sick of tripping over Bali Vampires like they were Logs in a Forest, but I've had MULTIPLE other people I know play and come back with this unmistakable look on their faces when they finished that just says, "I just played a Wrecking Crew Game."

It's not the over the top anime (I like that), it's not the system (I like that), it's not the players (As long as the Dude Showers and tries to stay in Character Cool).

I have an issue where a RPG is turned into a First (5+ Party Member?) Person Shooter with the God Mode Turned On, and zero coherent story except something that was blatently ripped off of The Order (A sad, sad Heath Ledger movie).

But to each their own. It's disengenious of me to just rip up on a group of guys that are volunteering their time to run so many games, and I understand that.

It just bothers me that so many players will come away with the Impression that Exalted, the RPG is nothing more than a Whack-A-Zombie game with DBZ type Manuevers, when it is so much more. Like I said somewhere before, taking your new Ferrari out to a Demolition Derby.

I would like to re-itterate again though, that I understand and appreciate the immense amount of time these guys are volunteering to run these White Wolf Games. As you probably know, I'm an Event Coordinator as well, so I can understand the work that usually goes into running something.

Maybe I'll run an Exalted game at Con myself. (shrug)
