So, I live way out in West West Valley. I know there's supposed to be a discount on the hotel next to ConGames, but is it cheaper to stay at that hotel or one closer by it?

I'd personally recommend staying at the discounted con hotel for two reasons:

1. It's literally right there...

2. Most hotels around that area that are cheaper are not very nice...

Personally I will probably crash at a friend's place from time to time since he lives close by! :D

Point 1 is the best reason for it, after a long day of events, walking next door to the hotel is much better than getting into your car and driving to a hotel, and then coming back.

Also that means finding a new parking space the next day, and some can be a bit of distance to the event as the main parking lots can fill up.

Not to mention that most times an event that is using Hotel space gets that space based on rooms that are sold from the hotel. Its one way that you can help the event just a little bit more.

For me personally I prefer having the hotel right there. When you play too hard (or work in my case) at the convention it is nice to be able to shower and crash for a couple of hours without worrying about even a small drive.

Its not a bad price for 4 people per room (for three nights it less than 100$ per person) so if you can find people to room with it is always good, and the hotel has these wonderful fluffy beds and comforters that are fantastic after a long day, not to mention the never ending hot water.
