Never played it in my life. However, I saw a game being played the other day and it is only a matter of time before i succumb.
It took me back to my necromunda days. Which is still a lot of fun. As far as i can tell it was basically warhammer skirmish, with added upgrades. Now I think its only time before i start playing (probably summer) But i would like to start thinking about creation of a warband. Now here's the shocker. Won't be doing orcs. No way. The goup i play already has 2 orc warbands in it. and while i feel a deep affinity for da boyz... theres just something about the orc warband rules that really don't set me a light with interest. However, Having just finished reading C.L Werner's superb (best warhammer novel i have ever read.) Witch Hunter novel. and that there no Witch Hunter Warbands in the League... Also its a small warband so less to paint... and cheap to buy... Gotta say I'm very tempted! Anyone had any experiences with Mordheim they would like to share? Any warband imput? Any Battle reports they would like to share? Cheers Urgaz |

I've played it a pretty good amount, and it's tons of fun, but you really gotta play with good people, because their's too many opportunities for questionable rules manglings. I have played both Orcs and Skaven. I've gotta say orcs are at a serious disadvantage in the game, at least in my experience, because Initiative is such a key element in Mordheim, and Orcs certainly lack it.
On a side note, Urgaz, you offered membership to me in your cult on another post. What exactly is your cult? |

what? i found that orcs and goblins were at an INSANE advantage, with a warband max of 20 (normal 15) you could take a crap load of goblins, i would give my goblins a spear and a dagger, they became brutal at taking down saurus warriors. i would bunch them together then when a saurus would charge i would intercept with 3 more goblins, giving me 8 attacks before his 2. my friends lizard men never got a break. my orcs all had bows cus the goblins would deal with anyone in melee. it got really stupid really quick.

The cult of Urgaz : Its a cult of really cool people who make useful comments and constructive ideas towards the game of warhammer and its sister games. Its more a group of like minded inviduals who make a contribution to the forums this cult exists on. Its all about trying to get other people to sort of except other people's ideas, while keeping their own. Your comment on great shamans was very very clever and incietful. It got to the hear of the matter and made it simple. The cult of Urgaz isn't like the cults you hear about on TV. The names more a of joke rather than anything else. (after all I'm the least likely to make an intelligent comment Urgaz Cult of Urgaz |

Urgaz,
Sounds like a pretty good organization. (Thanks for the compliment, by the way, I try and make my posts count for the most part). Would it be pretty accurate to say that it's a group of people who try and use these discussion boards for that which discussion boards were designed to be used? That seemed to be the jist of what you were saying. Anyway, seems like a fair bunch of ladz. Count me in. |

I absolutely love Mordheim!
It requires relatively few models, and being a terrain buff, I've gone overboard making ruined tudor style villages and gothic settings! Its great for the story telling element.... with characters recieving experience as well as injuries each band begins to develop great character. I play in a group that gets in maybe 2 game a month, and its such a blast. We have a Skaven band, Marenburgers, witch hunters, orcs, possessed, and my own band - "Skallywags of the Black Crow" (Pirates-using rules from the Mordheim site). It does get difficult when a gang becomes too powerful, but there are no rules against alliances, so this is how we deal with the current king of the hill - Who happens to be me pirates at the moment. so there you have it, love it, great game to draw people in to gamesworkshop... easy to learn, cheaper to get into, and awesome to watch with painted bands and great terrain! |

I love Morheim. Awesome game, as long as you have enough terrain. You can never have enough in my opinion!
Witch Hunters are probably one the coolest background wise, but unfortunately are a bit lacking in the gaming department. Don't get me wrong, you can still do well with them, it's just easier with some of the other gangs. Skaven spring to mind. Now *they're* a nasty warband! |

Skaven definitely have some hardcore options, and benefit from the added bonus that all their abilities and weapons are so damn cool. Not to mention good starting initiative, awesome movement (those two combined let you go places most can't, and get their faster).
Fighting Claws and Warplock Pistols are sweet and very cool. The Art of Silent Death, and Tail Fighter abilities are similarly powerful and picaresque. That and Gnawdoom is the coolest spell (2D6 S1 hits). Nothing quite like having a Black Skaven use fighting claws to scale up the shear side of a building, then launching himself onto the opposition below getting extra attacks for Fighting claws and Art of Silent Death, and extra strength for the aerial assault. You can probably tell I have a special place in my heart for the rats in Mordheim. They're just so damn appropriate for such a dark and dirty setting. |

Then it was time they were purged with cleansing fire like the heretics they are! Need a name for my witch hunters... Oh and as demolisher wisely pointed out. Spoon indeed, this is a vital part of the cult. If you wish to be part of the cult, just stick "cult of urgaz" in your sig or title some where. Urgaz Cult of Urgaz |

True. Indeed. Here there's one Cool High Member since the beginning of Time BTW, I play Mordheim sometimes (mostly vs. my wife), funnily enough with a band of skavens (vs. her sisters of sigmar). I think WHFB is far more tactic than Mordheim (I think moving units is more interesting than moving single miniz), but mordheim gives you very interesting modeling opportunities (i.e. cheap bands, you can have many). Sadly I haven't yet tryied a campaign and I would! I play also Gorkamorka. Greenskin madness galore! |

i play, using an orc warband, and having played it since its release, like 3/4 years ago, and using the same mob, my warband is awesome (always use an orc warband. if played properly, they are very challenging, yet at the same time hard to beat)

I really like Mordheim, though admittedly the gaming group has moved back to full games of Warhammer. It was fast, funny and characterful. We almost always played multi-player games, which made for a lot of treachery, especially as we allowed people to make deals like "I'll pay you 15 gold if you don't shoot my guy this turn."
I personally think the rules are pretty solid, much better than Inquisitor, Necromunda, or even the big Warhammer and Warhammer 40k. Compared to the amount of questions you can end up with maneuvering units and the magic phase, I thought the game was very clean. The only downside is that I found it easier to theme and personalize gangs in Necromunda. Perhaps I found it more difficult to get past the very specific warband archetypes, or perhaps a fantasy game just doesn't have the mountain of possibilities a sci-fi game does. As a side note, at first there was no Orc warband, so I ran a Witch Hunter gang. The big drawbacks to the Witch Hunters is their very small maximum gang size (12) and the very poor-quality henchmen troops (Zealots & Warhounds). I found myself relying heavily on the equipment and skills of my Witch Hunters. Fortunately, with crossbows, pistols and the right skills, you can make some brutal shooters. |
