Orcs on the high seas are different then while on the land. Whilst on the land, power is usually the prefered method, in Naval Battles, you need many attacks as well.

For example, when first boarding an enemy vessel, use powerful troops with additional hand weapons-black orcs fit this role well.

Use your numbers to swamp the enemy-attack a larger vessel by having two transport small vessels attack from either side, while a large ship bombards it from afar.

More tips to come...anyone who has any post them here

I think trolls are especially keen for boarding actions!

The fear factor is great here. You can deter a counter attack (even if you fail stupidity). And chances are, the other ship will have their tougher stuff waiting for you... just vomit on those guys (you probably won't be facing 'blocks' of troops) and start bashing the little stuff. Trolls can open holes for you during boarding actions.

I suspect that ogres are equally as good, but I've never used them.

As far as ships... If you go with wind power - try to have more than one mast... this will help with damage vs. mobility.

If you are going with ores... use plain gobbos... it's fluff and CHEAP.

IMO, rock lobbas are the best for warmachines... large template means you can hit more stuff and the center is a powerful hit.

If you have the stomach for it... I've been toying with the idea of a vast fleet of gobbo rafts... you could always swim to another raft and you'd swarm over everything. Plus if they were 'small', you could get some ramming in too.

haha gobbo raft fleet-i could see that-hmm Orc Torpedos...werent there rules for that or something?

I'm making a meduim cruuzer to ram the enemies big stuff and a large war machine ship.
Other then that my entire fleet will be rafts and landing craft.

Gobbo and troll suicide boats rule :)

How do you deal with limited artillery against other ships that may have higher fire power when fighting a strictly water based campaign?

the_gobbo_king - December 15, 2004 11:04 PM (GMT)
Hmm...a strictly water based campaign? Sounds intesting...

Your best bet-if you can safely manage it-is to get close to the enemy for CC-and possibly target their artillery to take off some of the damage you will take

hope that helps

Cor blimey. I wish I'd thought about some of these things before I built my ship.

Second mast, darn!

Anyone seen the UK WD article with loads of Gobbo rafts attacking a Dwarf Steamer?

Chukka Rafts, Doom-diver Rafts and Snotling Pump-Rafts!

Not many pics, but there are some nice ideas :o)

the_gobbo_king - December 17, 2004 12:03 AM (GMT)
Nay, I heard about it though-I believe there is an unpinned topic in this forum about-something like Riverbattle or a similar name...hmm

WhiteLionKurgan - December 24, 2004 12:44 PM (GMT)
I agree that Rock Lobbers are the best naval artillery - I can't see the point of Spear-Chukkas in watery games.

Anyone use them?

With a bit of luck, a couple of Rock Lobbers can sink a medium ship in no time :D

the_gobbo_king - December 24, 2004 08:27 PM (GMT)
Rock Lobbas do seem to be the best use since the larger area of effect lets you pick and choose your targets on the ships as well

If you have a mage in your naval battles always use the lore of fire- you can set your opponent's ship ablaze and cause damage to it every turn- yeah it will take a lot of points up but if your enemy doesn't have deployment ships than it's great.

Lets see..... Little Waaargh......Big Waaargh..... Nope! Can't see Lore of Fire in my spell book :D

What Orcs do *against* Lore of Fire - thats the question

(Short of dispelling it I suppose)

decker_cky - June 1, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
'eadbut the fire mage? :P

Smiley - June 1, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
