Title: The New Azahg

grakhnar - October 8, 2009 11:37 AM (GMT)
Just asking if anyone has managed to fork out £50 for azahg yet. I'd be interested to see any painted versions and also find out how difficult the model is to assemble. I'm saving for it at the moment and have a measly £10 in the kitty :(

I personally havnt picked one up yet, but plan to.

I have though seen the model un-assembled in person. Its a really great model. It will require alot of pinning, especially in the wyverns neck.

The best part is that Azhag himself is in several pieces. Lower legs with saddle, (saddle not part of the wyvern)upper half, seperate hands, and head. Making him really easy to convert. Which I plan on doing into my Black Orc Warboss.

Hope this helps.

I'm working on one right now, i've some problems with a memory card, but the model itself is coming along fine.

I'd just say that this is definitely not a model for beginners or average hobbyists. It leaves allot of work to you, and doesn't take much to totally mess it up.

Only buy it if high-standard painting truly is your passion, otherwise I would go and convert a High Elf dragon, cheaper and easier.

Thanks for the input guys, despite all the interest in this model it seems very few are actually willing to buy it. I'll continue saving my pennies, I think it will make a great centrepiece for my army. I hope that Tokamak will keep us updated when he starts to put paint to the model, it's a cool conversion.

I think several folks here have picked one up. Seems like most had some kind of problem with it in that parts were missing or incorrect. Off the top of my head, Xam has been updating his progress on it in his blog. I probably won't get one, especially after Tokamak's comment. That's a little too much $ for me to screw up, and I have the regular wyvern to look forward to.

Hi,

I will be keeping some progress shots coming in my blog of this guy.

I agree with Tokamak's comments. There is a lot of pinniing and GS work to be done just to get him together and its not just filling gaps. I did stuff on some of these joints I hadn't done in my short time in the hobby. It was a challenge and it worked out and I am pleased with my results. I also plan to spend a lot of time getting the paintjob right (it will probably be my main entry in next years Golden Demon).

The detail on the model is awesome. I am not unhappy I forked out $138AU for him.

Cheers

That's the point. It's so expensive that you really want it to have a perfect model/paint job which makes it a very frustrating experience for people who are not entirely confident in their painting and especially their modelling skills.

Again, there are amazing alternatives to play around with that are both cheaper and easier to work with.

Really I don't see why the model costs so much. It's metal so that means no nice extra bitz, reviews say it's the biggest mess to put together since the metal stank, and it's for a character that very marginal.

As stated above it's for someone that really wants to paint. I won't be picking one up unless I get one second hand.

In the same boat the new skaven bell looks over priced too. Give me some green stuff, dwarfy ruins and popsicle sticks and I will make a model that looks on par with that.

I agree. I wish the model was plastic, so it would lend itself better for conversions. Right now I think I'm going to wait a while before picking one up. Still, it's a nice (if expensive) addition to my army.
