Briney da Deep:
This has been the most complex conversion so far. Briney started as a very old Marauder Orc Shaman Wyvern Rider. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what a Shaman in an Orc Pirate Fleet would be like, and I finally settled on the idea that they would act as navigators. So, with that in mind, I added as many navigator type bits as I could find: a scroll and a book from the Mordheim Accessory Sprue (sea charts and treasure maps), a compass to hang from the staff made from a plactic Ork 40k gunsight and a small clipping of plasticard, etc.

At about this time I started getting the idea that this was a Shaman who came upon a treasure map and set out to follow it, but got a little lost and ended up spending too much time marooned on a deserted island. So I sculpted on some tattered pants and gave him a long beard out of green stuff. I made a bottle (good fer drinkin' and sendin' messages) out of half a plastic rod and some green stuff and stuck it on his belt with the book, strapped on by a little piece of twine (which helped hide the join between plastic rod and green stuff). His staff got some extras like a feather from the High Elf plastic set and some skulls from the Goblin Wolf Chariot chains.

Last, Briney needed some animal friends. I stuck a glob of green stuff onto the top of his staff and scored it to make it look like a nest. To this I added a bird from the old metal standard from the Skeleton Regiment box. I also decided to sculpt from scratch a starfish and a crab. This was easier than I thought it would be. I stuck two globs of green stuff onto a bit of plastic from a blister pack and just cut the details out from them. After they were dry I attached them to Briney's shoulder and beard and he's done.

Done with the book yet arfa? You've got 1 week left (well it depends on other issues two which I can't talk about here) so how are you going? Almost done.

If possible I also thought you said you were going to write a big article for DWQ on the entire making pirate orcs thing. Is that still going to happen?

Pointy-Eared Git - April 2, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
Well the whole 'me writing another big f*ckoff article' thing is news to me, but hey I guess I could maybe. Ive been swamped with work and football (which is a good thing), but Im not rostered on till next friday so Ill be doing it from now till then.

The 'creation' thing I was talking aboot before was everyones comments into how they helped the book, which is already hiding away in DWQ.

Thats fine. It was my misinterpretation. DWQ is very good already.

Ok, he's included in, and even though I said no more sneek peeks I thought I might as well give you one for old-times sake ^_^.

aww, shucks guys ^_^

Anyway, Ive tried to divvy-up the P&H section so that everyone gets a fair go, considering Kurgans stuff makes up aboot 70% of it all . I think Ive managed to do it well, except for the 'Core Units' section, where there are about 4 non-kurgan pics in the entire Deck Handz section! Oh well, it still looks spiffing, and of course da Adm'rul himself deserves every bit of credit he can get for his amazing minis!

It really looks awesome, I can't wait till the book comes out. I will be in love with it . And about the thing that there are so many models of kurgan in it, well I think he has painted the most minis for it so it is kinda normal.
